They're in the middle of wingman-ing each other when an incident happens, and they decide that, for the sake of their friendship, they need to part ways. They don't forget each other, though. The romantics may be gone, but there's a stronger kind of love in its place.

This is a blend of a couple of ideas I've had floating around in my head for a while and finally decided to commit to one fic. The Royal delegation is heading north to sort out refugee status and establish an embassy in Canada's capital now that the barrier has been destroyed, but things take a turn when their carefully plotted trip is derailed by an almost fatal bus crash.
Just as he's calculating how to get the monsters out safely as the vehicle is free-falling off of a cliff, he notices you doing something out of the corner of his eye as the bus slows it's descent. Did you just save them all?

Blue is a beautiful halo of light, a jellyfish-like mer whose soft underbelly belies his strength. Electricity and rage courses through his leylines, and a sharp beak hides under the beautiful, dress-like furling layers.
Red is a squat, slightly pudgy red-tailed mer, who is unable to tolerate much light. In the dark of the deep sea, his tail glows, spotted by a trail of glowing marks, with a bouncing light above his head mimicking a lantern fish.
They have been mated the moment they became of age, entwining fates that last them their entire lives.
