Zeref and Natsu never make it to the gate in time, Natsu doesn't get punched forward in time with the other four dragon slayers and the souls of their dragons.
The year is X697 (not that Natsu knows that) when he wakes up again. He is in an unfamiliar place but knows his brother is near.
This is the last time Natsu sees his older brother for a long time.

Zeref had made a promise. A promise to his parents, to his little brother, and himself. And he would keep it. He wouldn't, wouldn't come to regret it.
Mavis had been so hopeful for the future. As long as she had her friends, she would be able to do anything. But if she lost her friends...she wasn't sure if she could continue.
Natsu thought his life was just fine as it was. But he couldn't get the strange feeling that he was missing an important piece of himself.

One promise is what allowed Acnologia to keep his humanity and sanity, for the most part, intact.
The vow? To look after five dragonslayer children sent into the future, originally part of a plan to counteract Acnologia if he turned into a true monster, the same monster which brought despair to Alakatasia.
But who knew this promise would lead him to look after children other than those five dragonslayers over the years? Acnologia has faced and felled many beasts, but nothing could prepare him for the trials and tribulations of guardianship (though some would call it parenthood).

Fairy Tail high school au, but a little fucked up (nalu, jerza, gruvia, gale, zervis) An exaggerated portrayal about growing up as teenager in the later 2010s. At least for a suburban middle class. Simultaneous stories happen at the same time, and sometimes a scene is told twice from different povs. All discrepancies are intentional as everyone is an unreliable narrator.

Will this story provide inspiration for Gajeel and a not-so-secret affection of his own in the present?

Fairy Tail Guild Shenanigans (Past and Present) with appearances by many characters (who I didn't tag) and featuring some Gruvia and Gajeel and Juvia friendship. Very minor hints at/jokes about Zervis for kicks and giggles.
Rated G but includes some minor language. Please don't take this story too seriously.
