“I barely know you— what’s making you feel this bold? Didn’t you say I wasn’t your type literally four minutes after meeting me?” Eddie questioned, rightfully so— it was unclear whether or not Benny was just trying to be manipulative, or if he actually wanted this.

The world blurred at the edges. The light, the shimmer, the scent—it all blended into something dreamlike and unbearable. Phainon’s hand rose of its own accord, trembling as if pulled by instinct, his fingers stopping just short of Mydei’s— now bare— chest.
“Tell me what you want.” Mydei ordered, his voice surprisingly gentle but still firm.
“You.” Phainon rasped.

The low hum of the café faded into nothing. All he could hear was the pounding in his ears—loud, fast, and suffocating. His throat tightened, and his hands trembled against the edge of the table.
Phainon blinked, visibly startled by the silence that followed. He adjusted his glasses, shifting his weight awkwardly. “I—uh, I’m sorry, did I interrupt something?” His voice was gentle, uncertain, and so human. It made the beast inside Mydei churn.
