It’s funny how the space a person leaves behind can sometimes feel just as substantial as the person themselves.
In the three years since John died, Alex has been fine. Totally fine. Restless-leg-syndrome fine. Twitter-arguments-at-3am fine. But still, he texts John’s old number now and then. There’s a comfort in flinging words into a digital ravine, and no one but him ever sees the messages, so no harm done, right?
Then John’s number gets reassigned, and suddenly there’s someone listening, and Alex might have to confront the fact that sometimes the digital ravine shouts back.
(So it's a bit of angst, pretending to be a romcom, with a sprinkling of text-fic elements. Something for everyone)

As their laughter died down, Alexander gazed around the bar. As he scanned the room, his eyes landed on a very attractive man standing at the bar. He was talking to the bartender, and was certain to walk away as soon as he got his drink. John seemed to follow his gaze and nudged him under the table.
“What are you looking at?” He asked.
“That guy over there.” Alexander said, nodding in the direction of the man.
The man was simply beautiful—tall with dark, curly hair. He was leaning against the bar in a casual and relaxed way, and there was just something about him that made Alexander curious. He turned to John and grinned, standing up and brushing off his clothes.
“I’m gonna go ask for his number. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Alexander Hamilton came to Thomas Jefferson to make a compromise. Thomas's condition was sex, a very poor decision on his part as he and Alexander realize they like having sex with each other despite the both of them being married.
It starts as an affair, it evolves when feelings are involved. And becomes more complicated than either man had ever foreseen.
Or: Alex sleeps with Thomas to get his compromise on the banks, they start having casual sex with each other until they both catch feelings, things get messy when Alexander runs into some trouble, there is heartbreak, there is talking, and they end up alright in the end.

“He's just in the bathroom, he should be coming any second now.” Lafayette replied. He was always so nonchalant, and Alexander sometimes envied that.
Peggy sighed, a bit dramatically. “It's a man?” She grumbled. “I was so hoping that I'd get to slowly build an all female team. I’m pretty sure enough men work here.”
Lafayette peeked out from the little cubicle wall that he'd gone behind, waving Alexander over. It was a bit silly, given that Laf was taller than the divider, and Alex couldn't help but smile.
