He saw anger and pain and grief, but in that moment there was also a grim understanding. Wei Wuxian hauled himself out of bed and said, “Wen Qing, take your brother and leave through the back. Jiang Cheng and I will stall them.”
“What? No!” Wen Ning protested. “You’re in no shape to - ”
“It doesn’t matter,” Wei Wuxian said. “We’re useless now. We can’t avenge our family. We can’t protect our sister. We can’t do much of anything, but we can buy a few minutes for the two of you to get out of here.”

"Since when?" Jiang Cheng hissed, alarmed. "Did you break it with demonic cultivation or something?"
"No, no. That's not something that would happen." Wei WuXian seemed about to dodge the topic with an explanation of why exactly that was the case.
