“Yeah.”
Ilya nods. “I can house-sit while you are away. Make place pretty, if you have decorations. Make it less boring.”
Shane’s eyebrows fly up. “What? You don’t want to come with?”
Finally, Ilya looks up at him. Hesitantly, he asks, “You want me to come with?”
Frowning, Shane says, “I– yeah. Yeah, of course. You think I invited you here just so you could spend Christmas alone?”
Looking away, Ilya shrugs. “I am intruder here, Hollander. You have family. I do not. Makes situation… difficult, maybe. You forget the world thinks we are rivals.”
“Not difficult,” Shane says immediately. “You want to come, you’re coming.”

Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”

At first he was going to tell Edwin immediately, but then he hears the loving things Edwin thinks about him, and he just wants to listen for a few days because he's never heard someone "say" things like that about him.
Snippet:
He heard Edwin’s rich and affectionate chuckle, not out loud but in his mind, and realized all at once how aggressively he was fidgeting, the couch beneath him rattling. He jerked to a stop, making an embarrassed face and wondering if he should apologize for being so distracting when Edwin was trying to work.But, there goes the hummingbird, thought Edwin, a quick and simple phrase wrapped in a hundred soft layers of affection. Charles sat still, feeling his partner’s fond thoughts more than hearing them.

But, it was difficult to fight, in the end. It's the reason why a weapon fits in his hand the way a lantern fits in Edwins, the reason anger burns in him like hellfire.
In the end, he was his fathers son.
(The one where Charles talks about a lot. Life, death, music, parenthood. He learns a lot too. Learning how to be happy could be one of them. Learning to be loved is another. Edwin is a wonderful teacher.)

Ghosts couldn’t sleep. Accordingly they also couldn’t have nightmares. They could, however, have traumatic flashbacks that left them shaking, as Edwin was discovering in the aftermath of his second stint in Hell. Maybe it shouldn’t have surprised him, but this time he’d only been down there for a single day, albeit it had certainly felt longer, as opposed to 70 years. So why was he cowering on the floor now, after an unexpected glimpse of a creepy doll, when before he’d been able to bear such a sight with a barely suppressed shudder?
"Edwin? Edwin! Mate, what’s wrong?” The voice, wonderfully familiar and comforting, managed to penetrate the darkness Edwin felt trapped in. “Mate, please, talk to me!”
