Spidey hadn’t made it to patrol since getting that text message. As much as Wade valued their time together, he could understand that sometimes, too much Deadpool left a really bad aftertaste in one’s mouth. It had been a perfectly reasonable assumption that the webslinger was doing his own thing on the opposite side of the city, and he’d come crawling back to Wade when he needed a good laugh or a midnight meal, or both.
Wade should have questioned that logic. Three days wasn’t a long time to take a break from someone like Deadpool, but it was a long time to be missing.
There was a small, folded-up square of paper alongside the costume. Wade felt like he was cracking open a fortune cookie, only instead of some vague shit that applied to everyone and no one at the same time, it was two words scribbled in thick sharpie.

Something rustles in the silence. It's still dark out, but they're in the middle of the Mojave desert and Bradley's run into his fair share of wild animals that would occasionally wander into the hangar. He grabs a flashlight and the crowbar leaning against the wall. Instead of a fox or wayward tortoise, there's a lanky man in a rumpled flight suit crouched behind one of Maverick's motorcycles.
"Please don't hurt me!" He yells before Bradley can speak, both hands lifted in a gesture of peace and squinting at the strong beam of light shining directly into his face, "I swear I'm not trespassing. I just woke up in my truck in the middle of nowhere."
His truck?
Oh yeah, that Bronco had been his old man's back in the day.
"Can I borrow the landline?" Nick Bradshaw asks weakly, "I need to make a call."

The kid staring at him across the bar is young, Hawaiian shirt and blue board shorts, aviators pinned to a thin white undershirt, the V of his crooked collar showing a light smattering of freckles over sun-kissed clavicles. Probably some navy admiral's rebellious kid looking for a good time. Maverick's gone through his fair share of them way back when. This one is at least a decade too young for Maverick's current tastes. That ridiculous old-school mustache he's got going on does nothing to hide the signs of youth in the rest of his body — smooth supple skin and the effortless muscle that Maverick has to work hard to keep at his age.
"Like what you see?" Maverick says in way of greeting. It's a lot more straightforward than his usual pickup lines, but he's four drinks in and itching to be bent over some flat surface and fucked hard.
Something that looks like disbelief flits over the kid's face, then his expression smooths out once more, hardens.
He opens his mouth and it's a man's voice that says, "Yeah, I do."

One careers fair in highschool might change his mind about where he'd serve and perhaps provide him the opportunity for a fresh start, where people won't judge him based on his fathers legacy.
