Summary
Lying on the ground behind Gwaine is a man with ripped clothes — dark hair, bony cheeks, chest heaving up and down. He doesn't look frightened exactly, more shaken, in an oddly feral sort of way. He massages thin wrists with fingers that match, shackles peeking out from under the torn sleeves, and stands up on his feet slowly, very carefully.
When he realises that someone's looking at him, he looks back.
Arthur feels something heavy settle in his throat — the man has such blue, blue eyes.

Summary
If Arthur squints, he can see the red capillaries crawling over the body’s sclera. He holds his eyelid open with one hand and lightly touches the corner of his eye with the other, interested in how the membrane holds under his finger, when the body’s eye turns in a rapid movement and hones in on him.
Arthur can't help it. He screams.

Summary
Arthur gave Merlin his cloak thinking only of the warmth it would offer in a snowstorm. He never thought his manservant may be mistaken for him and snatched by bandits. Nor did he expect his dashing rescue of Merlin to turn his world so utterly on his head.
Because the bandits hadn't kidnapped a prince. They'd snatched a sorcerer, and now captivity is the least of anyone's problems.
A golden age awaits, but can they claim it together, or are they doomed to fail?

Summary
Merlin had always known there would be a reckoning for his lies; no secret between friends lasts forever, after all. He just hadn’t thought it would happen like this. In his deepest dreams, he’d imagined it as a righteous, glorious moment. Uther gone, Arthur’s heart already shifted and Merlin finally able to come clean, the loyal servant who had shouldered weight that shouldn’t have been his to bear for years, if only to make the life of his master a little easier. Sometimes, when he played the eventual reveal in his head, he told it as a joke, in some light-hearted, quippy bit that would make it all instantly okay. In other daydreams, Arthur had always known and loved him for what he’d done, but kept quiet for the sake of their friendship, patiently waiting for Merlin to come out of the metaphorical closet. Sometimes, the confession ended with a tight embrace that would stop the world, other times with a kiss that would shatter it. This was not like his daydreams.
___When Arthur catches Merlin using magic to save his life, he makes the choice to out his loyal manservant to his father, setting forth a chain of events that will change their destinies forever. Diverges from canon after S2 Ep9.
