“Did you hear what I said?” the silver-haired stranger asked sharply. “What are you doing here? Swimming in the lake at night is forbidden.”
“Oh—oh, no! You have it all wrong, I’m not here to swim—” Gon scrambled to stand as his mind raced. Who was this guy? Why had Kite told him not to visit the lake at night if other people were allowed to do it? “—I work with Kite at the research facility!”
“The research facility is closed at this hour. And Kite definitely knows better than to hang around here after sunset. Are you new or something?”

Gon accepts a job with Kite for the chance to leave Whale Island for the first time in his life. But Gon's employment at Lake Kukuroo comes with rules - don’t explore the lake alone, and don’t visit the lake at night.
And even though Gon enjoys working alongside Kite, learning about the lake and the strange blue-eyed swan that inhabits it, he is also curious. Gon wants to know why Kite is so strict with his rules. And he needs to know more about Killua Zoldyck, the only person Gon has ever seen on the lake at night and who may be the reason why Kite has rules in the first place.

Summary
It wasn’t until they were in his room, that Gon tried to understand himself. Figure out why his body ached for Killua's touch. And of course, there's only one way to find out.
“Hey, Killua,” Gon calls out from the bathroom, “don’t…um…don’t take out the extra mattress.”
He can hear Killua’s movements stop — he was probably in the middle of doing just that. “Okay…why?” Killua asks, entering the bathroom, “do you want me to get scoliosis from sleeping on the floor?”
Gon chuckles, looking at Killua through the mirror, “no, I was thinking more along the lines of — sleep with me?”

Summary
Gon assumes his job as the crown prince's personal guard will be simple. Combat is the one thing he's good at, after all, so he's confident he can protect the prince from any danger that may cross his path.
What Gon fails to anticipate is being captivated by the prince's beauty and aching, palpable loneliness. What Gon fails to anticipate is the prince's bizarre determination to ignore the strict, unbreachable boundaries dividing the two of them by their status. What Gon fails to anticipate is that the worst of the violence from which he'll have to protect the prince will come from within the royal family itself.

“I’m not a person. I’m not the sort of thing you should worry about feeding. I’m a savage, violent animal that needs to be put down.”
Gon looks over the man carefully. His eyes are sunken, yes, but they’re wide and expressive and impossibly blue. The hand not holding the bun is clenched into a tight, shaking fist. There’s a mottled bruise on his cheekbone that looks like it’s only just begun to heal. His mouth, although full, keeps twitching downwards as if he were only just managing to hold back tears. He doesn’t look fierce or dangerous. He looks hungry. And scared. And like, in another life, he might be beautiful.
“I don’t think so,” Gon says simply. “I don’t think you’re all that savage or violent.”
“Why’s that?”
Gon smiles.
“You haven’t killed me yet, have you?”
Old stories have rules. Do not stray from the path where the forest is darkest. Do not stop to talk to strangers in the woods. Do not, whatever you do, feed the creature with hungry eyes and sharp teeth.
Gon Freecss, however, has never been particularly good at following rules.

Summary
"In a flash, Killua’s hand shifts into razor-sharp claws, nails elongating and veins bulging. He holds it firmly against Gon’s throat, not hard enough to cut into him, but a warning.
'Who the hell are you?' he demands, voice low and dangerous in a way Gon has only heard on a handful of occasions."
An unknown Nen ability causes Killua to lose all memory of Gon, and he's extremely suspicious of the story Gon tells him of the life they allegedly share. Love, belonging, a cozy apartment with both of their names on the lease--it's simply too good to be true. For someone like Killua, that sort of life just isn't possible. For someone like Killua, Gon just isn't possible.

Five years without any contact was a long time. The distance had built new walls on top of old wounds. They were still best friends, maybe, but did they really know each other anymore? In an ideal situation, they'd spend some time alone, maybe go on a few small adventures. Take it slow. Rediscover what drew them to each other in the first place.
But Killua had officially decided that the situation was not ideal. In fact, it was so much the opposite that he was going to have an enormous hickey on the inside of his elbow.
Because instead of taking things slow, they were pretending to make out in a closet.

“Who are you?” Gon demanded, though he kept his voice to a harsh whisper—he didn’t want to risk waking Mito right now. “What do you want from me?”
“Like I’d tell you my name so easily,” the stranger said, almost condescendingly. “As for what I want—you’ve killed my family’s dog, Gon Freecss. For that, you must pay.”
Now he was just confused.
“What?” Gon blurted, and winced at his volume. Continuing in a quieter voice, he said, “No. I wouldn’t kill a dog. You must be confusing me with someone else.”
“I found Mike’s body in the woods earlier and tracked the blood to this village,” the stranger replied. “You’re the talk of the town for killing him. Don’t try to deny it.”
“Wait, you mean the—the jabberwocky?”

Summary
And in a moment that didn’t last more than two seconds, Gon pressed his chapped lips onto Killua’s still blushed cheek and strolled out the door.
It wasn’t until Killua heard the door click shut that he released the puff of air he was holding.
“Nothing going on, my ass!” Alluka remarked.
“Alluka!” Killua hissed at the vulgar language of his younger sister.
“You’re both so oblivious that it makes me sick,” Alluka gagged. “Just wait till Kurapika and Leorio hear about this.”
(or, four times a pining Killua and Gon don’t kiss on the lips, and one time that they do).

Summary
Killua doesn’t know how it happened.
Maybe the sound reminded him of cruel whips cracking against his bloodied and tattered skin. Maybe it reminded him of every murder he ever had to commit in the dark, pouring rain. It even could have been the loneliness he felt within the storm's ruthless wrath.
But no matter the reason, one fact stood clear: Killua was afraid of thunder.
(or, a thunder storm is keeping Killua awake. that is, until Gon shows up at his door).

Killua just kicks his legs and giggles in response, eyes glued to the screen. Although Gon is a bit concerned over his friend’s mental health, a smile was good, right? He vaguely remembers Leorio saying "happy wife, happy life!" once, and even though the situation wasn’t exactly the same, Gon still thinks the sentiment applies.

Summary
Killua just doesn't want Gon to see him cry. Tears are a shameful thing, the first thing he learned how to hide. But the tears come anyway, and Killua's only been able to hide things from Gon for so long beyond he pulls them out into the light.

“Killua looks good with his hair like this,” Gon murmurs absently, almost like he’s thinking aloud, trailing his hand higher still until he’s carding his fingers through the longer curls. His eyes dart over, lower, and his hand follows until he’s fingering one of the piercings in Killua’s ear. His touch is soft against the sensitive skin; it’s all Killua can do not to shiver.
“And these, too,” Gon adds. Is it Killua’s imagination or was his tone kind of breathy? But that wouldn’t make sense—Gon doesn’t—
He tries to respond, licks his lips in an attempt to despite not knowing what to say, but then Gon’s gaze snaps down to lock on his mouth.
