Then fireworks, which startled Hijikata briefly who was trained to jump at any sign of Sogo’s attacks, but it was just brightly colored fireworks. Hijikata turned back to Gintoki who was looking at him that same way again.

A glint in his glassy eyes like he broke a thousand hearts but never a single promise. Like everything would break down without Hijikata having to relive the last five years. A look that left, betrayed, and lost him all at a glance. Hijikata was broken and healed all in one look, one look… leaving him to the overture of shock, gaping at Gintoki.
“You… bastard…”
He knew.
Hijikata hid his pathetic smile, gazing down at the cold hand he didn’t realize he was holding so tightly.
