No.” Damn, I wish I could touch him. I want to cup his chin in my claw, push his thighs further apart, nuzzle into his soft belly. All I can do is lean my weight heavier into him. “Is because it is you.”
The sound he makes is once again one I’ve heard before, a breathy, high-pitched noise through closed lips. “You…” He thunks his forehead against the ball. “You like this.”
“Yes yes yes,” I chant.
“ˈFʌk.” I don’t have time to ask what that word is before he continues, “Could you hum again, where you were before? Please?”
I sing, “Oh, Grace, of course,” and settle against the side of the ball as closely as I can before I begin to drone a low, vibrating note. Another high, whined-out noise is pulled out of him as he rolls his hips forward into me.
“This… this is so gross,” he pants.
“You are gross creature. I enjoy it.”
Grace throws his head back, hips moving faster. “Yeah, god, it’s all for you, Rock. Nobody else has ever seen me like this.”

I squeeze, palpating. Suddenly there's movement against my fingers as the hard mass inside parts and rolls around my thumb.
“♩♯♬, Grace!” Rocky shrieks.
He’s so shrill it borders on inaudible, jumping against my hand. I watch a contraction ripple through him, wave of hard tension rippling through the muscle I'm kneading. I can't stop looking at it. I press harder and harder, thumbs circling deeper into the impaction as it slowly breaks up in my hands.
I jump when something wet hits my arm, and Rocky’s voice hits a fever pitch. He wails like a siren, thrashing and bellowing so loud my ribs quake. “Grace, grab—♬♩♬, grab! Now!”

Summary
Rocky makes the flexible xenonite membrane to comfort Grace.
Eridians don't sound like this, the fleshy parts of us are more internal and not so… active? There's just so much to hear, with it in my arms like this. The textures of its skin, the lines where the skin folds out of habit. The burn where I touched it, really touched it.
Inspired by jadepataki's Boundary Conditions :) all dialogue from the original story! I just wanted to write Rocky's POV. I thought about how *different* Grace would sound now that Rocky can hear him through solid connection instead of through air-xenonite-air.

“Proof of concept,” ♫♬♯♩♩♫ says. “We’ve tested it thoroughly to ensure it fits the specified nutritional profile, and several members of our team have ingested small amounts of it to ensure there were no adverse effects.”
“You ate some of it?” I ask, rudely. I’m too irate to mind my language. Who do they think they are? That meat is for Grace. In a way, that meat is Grace.
“Yes,” ♫♬♯♩♩♫ says. They and the rest of the human life support thrum know better than to be offended by my occasionally strange behaviour. “Obviously we weren’t going to risk the life of Honoured Grace on a completely untested technology.”
That doesn’t mean much. There’s a lot of things that are safe for ingestion by Eridians that would outright kill a human.
Trust Grace, I remind myself. He’ll have thought of all this.

Another tiny scrap of soft, moist tissue. I press it to Grace’s mouth, gentle but insistent. I can’t feel it, but I can hear a slight suction, the way his mouth-muscle licks the remaining traces of meat from the xenonite mesh.
I think about the fact that this meat is cloned from Grace’s own cells. Nurtured by Eridian science, given back to Grace for nourishment. Brought to him by my own hand. If the universe is kind, Grace will grow healthy again on this sustenance.

“I… Maybe? Yeah,” Grace whispered, and Rocky had to focus to understand the slurring.
“Humans can feel sound, question?”
Grace huffed a small laugh. “Sometimes, yeah. For example, when the sound is… very low and loud, we can feel it in our chests.”
“Song is neither low nor loud.” That would have an entirely different effect.
“I know. I can still feel it, I think. It’s strange.”
“Good strange, question?”
“Good strange, yeah.”
Grace could feel sound. Grace could feel Rocky’s songs.
Hmm.
Rocky discovers nature's laws aren't as inflexible as they'd thought. He puts this to good use.
