Summary
There is nothing underwhelming about kissing Ruan Nanzhu. Lin Qiushi feels like he’s in a movie, like there should be some sort of sweeping soundtrack behind them instead of the ambient din of commuters at the traffic signal a block away. He feels like hurtling towards something huge at a dangerous velocity, but he can’t quite figure out what it is. All he knows is he wants more.
Heartbreak, grief, and healing fractures that can't be erased, but instead can be mended into something beautiful.
Coda for Chapter 105 in the novel. This particular fic is almost entirely compliant with drama!canon, as well (except for a few, non-critical details), picking up at the end of Tan Zaozao's award show.

Summary
An unfamiliar warmth is swirling in Ruan Lanzhu’s belly, spreading lower, liquid and hot. He is not unaware of desire, of course. He’s urbane, savvy; the things he knows about sex would make even Li Dongyuan blush, but he’s never felt this acutely caught up in his own desire. It’s never felt so unwieldy.
He watches shamelessly as Ling Jiushi drops his sweater on the ground and slowly picks up another fruit from the side table. Wordlessly he holds it out, hand-feeding Ruan Lanzhu like he did before. Ruan Lanzhu lets him, working his mouth to free the flesh from the pit under the weight of that dark, unblinking gaze. He spits the pit out into Ling Jiushi’s waiting hand, never once breaking eye contact.
The air is thick with tension. Ling Jiushi takes a step closer as he holds up another lychee, and now his eyes are almost black.

An Episode 23 coda (though beware, it includes references to big spoilers for the end of the series). Honestly, it writes itself. We were all thinking it. Right? (Right???)

He then swallows and looks down, a bit uneasy. When he looked up, he saw him walking towards the entrance.
Xia Zhiguang went to the bouncer at the front, flashed a card, recognized him instantly and whispered something before going in. As soon as Xia Zhiguang went in, the bouncer came close to Huang Junjie, and the bouncer grabbed his arm, which startled him; he was trying to resist when the bouncer said.

In the end, Ruan Nanzhu supposes, there’s no way it could have been avoided. At best, it could be mitigated: Ruan Nanzhu sticking close to Lin Qiushi’s side for the rest of eternity, making sure his wounds weren’t as heavy. But he can’t help but be seethingly, horribly angry at the client who had caused this—at the fact that, because of them, Lin Qiushi is pallid and deathly, limp and pliant. His only comfort is they had died, there, behind the door—the least they deserve for letting Lin Qiushi get hurt like this; if they weren’t dead already, Ruan Nanzhu—well. People have described him as ruthless, and Ruan Nanzhu has never bothered to weigh in otherwise. He hasn’t killed many people, but for Lin Qiushi—for Lin Qiushi, there are many, many things he would do that he wouldn’t usually.

Injured in his first solo door, Lin Qiushi seems to be on the verge of death when he emerges, leaving Ruan Nanzhu to wait and hope for him to recover—at least, until he suddenly awakens, seemingly without any trace of injury. But not everything is as it appears, and secrets will always out.

As he anxiously try to find his way to him and later keep up on the adventure to reach the Queen Mother's Palace, he no longer can't deny himself of the increasing feelings he had for Wu Xie.
After all, even when he lost his memories, time and time again, the only connection he had with the world was Wu Xie and no matter the dangers ahead of them, he will always protect him to the best of his ability, because he was not only worthy, but also deeply loved.
Takes after the events, when Wu Xie and Ah Ning enter the Devil City of the Ultimate Note drama, with an alternative universe from then on.
