Summary

Meanwhile, Flint and Silver try to escape an island trapped in time, impossibly built and impossibly old. Along the way they’re forced question reality, each other, and themselves.

“Jesus Christ, don’t do that,” he says. “If you want to know where I come from just ask.” It almost even feels like the truth to say it, like if Flint asked him in the just the right way, John could find the words that would make his life till now into something that could be understood.-

It's not a secret that Charles was a slave, but it's also not a thing he talks about. It's a thing he'd confessed to Jack one night, when there had been a shipment of slaves in the harbor destined for the inland plantations. Charles had stared and then gone and drunk himself into a stupor. Jack had come to fish him out of a fight in the tavern and haul him back to his tent, stumbling and belligerent. He'd wiped Charles's brow, given him water, and said if I'm to be your keeper I at least deserve to know why you've gotten yourself into this state. And Charles had told him, words slurring together, not the specifics but the general idea.

Summary
River Cartwright doesn't like sex, and he doesn't like dating. Somehow, an ill-fated conversation with Spider, the first close friend he makes as an adult, where he tries to explain this results in River finding himself in a friends-with-benefits arrangement that he doesn't remember agreeing to, doesn't want, and can't find a way out of.
It's not like it's... it's not like it isn't his fault. That's what River tells himself. He lets it happen, after all, so who else can be to blame? He doesn't get to be traumatized by this. It's not like he was raped. Later on, when people start finding out, they have a different opinion. To them, it's clear that this is in fact exactly what happened.
OR: Five times someone learned about what Spider did to River, and one person who already knew. Ft. repulsed aroace River, a heap of internalized victim blaming and aphobia, and the pain of not having the words to describe who you are and what's happened to you.

Summary
At the end of 4x05, Patrice abducts River at gunpoint. This time, they go to a remote, isolated manor where Frank is waiting for them. The slow horses do not see or hear from River again for almost five months. During that time, Frank does his level best to break River and rebuild him into a tool he can use, with Patrice as his assisting shadow. This… doesn’t really work. In fact, the process ends up breaking not River, but someone else.
Meanwhile, Slough House is on overdrive trying to find a missing colleague who the Park is all to quick to deem presumed dead and rubber-stamp his file as such. Louisa almost quits, and finds an odd solace in working alongside Lamb to try to bring their missing agent home. She is having a bad one - the maybe-loss of her best friend is tearing her apart.
It all comes to a head when Louisa follows a lead that she knows better than to follow. She is meant to be the last blow that destroys River's resolve. It doesn't shake out like that. By the time they're both rescued, it's a long road to recovery. But there is a road, and there's help along the way.
