It started with a sore throat.
Two days ago, they had fought against some weird college witch coven in the woods, and Stiles had fallen into one of the countless creeks passing through the Preserve because, of course, he did. Since it’d been 2am and the middle of January, the water had been freezing. So, it wasn’t a surprise, per say, when Stiles woke up on Monday only to have a scratchy throat.
OR: Stiles gets sick after falling into a creek during a standard night out - but instead of getting better, he gets worse.

Gansey couldn’t really tell. He tried not to look at it. Just sometimes, when he glanced over at Adam scribbling furious notes, or Ronan ignoring schoolwork in favor of antagonizing their teacher (Mrs. Wellington, the history substitute), he could catch a glimpse of yellow in the corner of his eye.
When he turned around the bee was gone. The window was empty of flying death, only spring roses and old buildings visible through the glass.

But he wasn’t the only person in the car, no, Malia was here with him. Carefully Stiles turned his head, the muscles stiff and bruised, only to find Malia’s seat empty. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. The seat itself was shredded to pieces, the marks starting human before they turned into something decidedly claw-like.
Malia’s side of the jeep was crushed even worse than Stiles was, and for a moment his heart stopped. What if she was dead? What if- what if Stiles had accidentally killed her?

Standing in her kitchen, washing the dishes Mike had left out before he went to work, Margaret watched as Beth came home drunk day after day. She watched as Beth failed to bring out the trash, and as her front garden turned into some sort of suburban nightmare. She watched as Beltik came back, only for Beth to not open the door.
It was a tragedy, really, only Margaret felt vindicated.
Yes, maybe she hadn’t been allowed to go to college, and maybe Jean kept her awake even if she wanted nothing more than to drink and sleep, but at least Beth hadn’t gotten her dream life either.

It was disconcerting to see Bruce as powerless as this. Jason had this image in his head, of Batman – of Bruce Wayne – as this indestructible figure. It was hard not to see Bruce that way, when so often in Jason’s youth the mission had come first. Bruce had constructed so much of his personality to fit Batman, it was easy to forget that beneath the glower and the grunts was… someone human. Looking at the blood dripping down onto the stone floor from a cut on Bruce’s cheek, Jason couldn’t forget just how human Bruce truly was.
They could die down here.
OR: The Benefactor captures Jason and Bruce - in the face of Bruce's imminent death, Jason realizes some things.
