Eddie can’t even remember the last time they spent the whole day together without being on shift. But maybe there is a way to get Buck to stay with him for a whole day. Chris is too big to use as an excuse but –
An idea begins to form in his head.
Fuck it.
“Hey, Chim,” Eddie says, turning his attention to their new captain.
“Mh?”
“Buck and I have a present for you!”
“For me?” “We do?” Chim and Buck ask at the same time.
“Our present for you is a day off from parent duty. You and Maddie can do whatever you want to celebrate Captain Han and we will babysit the kids,” Eddie explains with a smile.
From the corner of his eye he can see how Buck cocks his head for a moment before his smile returns in full force as he hugs Jee-Yun closer to his body. “Do you hear that, Jee Jee? You’re getting a whole day of uncle Buck and uncle Eddie time. Isn’t that exciting?”
Or a post 9x01 fic in which a baby monitor and a overheard love confession might just give Eddie everything he's ever wanted.

“Maddie” she grins. “Buck” she replies, then with her tone a little softer she asks.
“Are you in love with him, is that why you feel guilty?” he shakes his head. Because no, he can’t that’s- he just can’t be.
“He’s straight” he croaks, weakly.
“I’m not asking about his sexuality, I’m asking if you’re in love with him, and I want you to answer me honestly, no excuses”

Hen is busy with Karen and the kids, Chim is having a hard time with being a captain, Maddie's got you, and Eddie...” he stopped, eyes tracing the filtered light bleeding through the curtains. “Eddie is busy settling into his new role. Everything changed so fast, and somehow I’m the one left dizzy with it. But don’t tell anyone—they’ll just think I’m being dramatic.”
Since Bobby’s death, the team's dynamic had shifted. And he should've been used to turning around on the calls and seeing Ravi beside him—handing him tools, helping with the tasks—but it still left him unsettled. Because every time he turned around, he expected to see Eddie. But he was somewhere else, with Hen at his side, sharing inside jokes, moving in a weirdly terrifying sync. It used to be them.

He turns to Hen and demands, “Laugh.”
“I’m sorry?”
“Laugh,” Eddie hisses. “Laugh loudly, like I’ve just said the funniest fucking thing you’ve ever heard. Ready?”

Summary
Eddie tries to peek out the windows to see what's out there as he approaches the door, but Buck moves to obstruct his view. "Hey, uh. So. I found … uh, this piece of furniture, on Marketplace. And if you hate it, it's fine. No biggie! I just … it was such a good deal!"
They don't need more furniture. In fact, they actively need less, so Buck wouldn't buy something new without a really good reason.
"Okay, Buck, I trust you. What did you get?"
"It's … I guess, I mean, um. Well, I think you should just come see." Buck turns around before Eddie can reply and heads out the front door.
Eddie stays hot on his heels for barely even one square of sidewalk, stopping in his tracks when he sees the bright red metal frame that's strapped down in Buck's truck bed. It's upright, so Eddie has a clear view of what Buck picked up for them.
It's bunk beds.
Buck and Eddie try to process their grief about Bobby's death and figure out what they mean to each other, all while squeezed into Eddie's two-bedroom house.

Inevitable comes around four in the morning. He’d been tossing and turning since they’d gotten back from their last call a couple hours ago, and had finally decided to give up and look for a snack in the kitchen. He thought he left the bunk room quietly enough that no one would notice, but when he pulls his head out of the fridge with a jar of peanut butter, Eddie is standing across the island from him, that grim look still fixed on his face.
“Hey,” Buck says.
“Hey,” Eddie says back. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
Buck’s cornered and he knows it. He shrugs, twisting the jar in his hands. “It’s been a busy shift.”
Eddie doesn’t roll his eyes, but Buck still feels like he does. Instead he walks over to the big table, pulls out a chair and sits. “Just wanted to ask if you can stop by after our shift is over. Wanted to talk to you about something.”

A hand clasped on his shoulder with a comfortable familiarity that jerked Eddie out of his stupor. He spun around, heart racing in his chest.
Buck stood over him, smiling that easy smile and wearing that nice blue jumper that matched his eyes.
“Buck?” It came out choked and pathetic.
Buck laughed like this wasn’t the most embarrassing thing that ever happened.
Buck chuckled. “Hey.” He lowered himself into the chair. He looked confused but also somewhat pleased, cheeks pink and Eyes fond. “I didn’t think you would come to an event like this.”
“I didn’t mean to.” Eddie comes out with all at once, words bursting out of his mouth. “I signed up when I was drunk. I didn’t know it was for bisexuals.”
Buck blinked slowly before he burst out laughing.'

Eddie, in a fit of jealousy over Buck's successful sex life, signs up for speed dating. He doesn't realise it is an event for bisexuals until it's too late. He plans to ride the awful night out and pretend it never happened until he spots Buck.

Summary
As it turns out, Chris had been waiting for his dad to confirm they could stay in LA.
“This is home,” he’d stated simply. And that had been that.
However, that left the Diaz boys with one tiny problem - their former house was currently occupied. Luckily for them, said occupant loved their company and welcomed them back home with open arms. There wasn’t much by way of discussion - Eddie had told Buck that he and Christopher were staying in LA, Buck showed Christopher that his room was ready and waiting for him, and they celebrated with an evening of pizza and video games.
For a while, things were easy. Simple. Eddie was back at the 118, all of their belongings had been shipped over from El Paso, and the three of them developed a rhythm that made living together seamless.
At some point along the way, though, something shifted.
or; Eddie is in love with Buck. Buck is in love with Eddie. Neither knows how to deal with their current living situation, and instead of talking about it, things spiral out of control.

He didn’t have that strength. He had lost Bobby, and he carried that guilt like a weight that would never lift. He could never outrun it. He could never outrun the memory of the glass door, the look in Bobby’s eyes, the way he had walked away. Nothing, not a thousand saved lives, could balance that moment

Buck turns his face to the backseat in disbelief. He turns red without meaning to, and he can see Eddie’s eyes narrowing.
“What do you mean?”

Eddie wakes up with someone’s arms wrapped around him. Which is very concerning because he went to bed alone last night, like he’s done every night for over a year now.
He scrambles out of the bed, completely ungracefully, landing flat on his ass in a room that is unmistakably not his own. His heart hammers in his chest as he tries to make sense of it all in his just woken state. He peers over the mattress, to the person that was holding him, and he’s pretty sure his heart gives out all together.
“Maddie?”
She yawns from the bed, not opening her eyes, curling further into the pillow. “It’s too early, Howie, the alarm hasn’t gone off yet.”

Eddie finally met his eyes, frowning, “Buck, you’re not sleeping on a mattress on the floor of some empty meth lab when you have a perfectly comfortable place to sleep here.”
