Their bodies were almost completely alike. Two arms, five fingers, two legs, two eyes, a nose, a mouth, a head of hair, but not in the way amphibians are. Not at all. Taller than a frog but not as broad as a toad.

Marcy gulped. "Your fingers.. aren't webbed?"

When breathing exercises were first introduced to Sasha he felt more than a little stupid, but in practice they'd done wonders to help him calm down. To not get angry, not do something stupid again.
Surely he had gotten better, wouldn't have to worry about slipping into bad habits. Right? Perhaps this was a sign the change wouldn't stick after all.

So, as they cleaned up the kitchen after dinner, she dropped the bomb on Yunan with the most casual but certain voice she could come up with; “I think Marcy’s autistic.”
Yunan turns around almost immediately from the kitchen sink, careful not to drop the plate she’s holding, turning off the tap. “Come again?”
“I think,” Olivia repeats, hoping her voice doesn’t waver, “Marcy’s autistic.”
Or, about a year and a half after Marcy's adoption, Olivia began to notice the various things Marcy does differently.
