He’s wearing green-coloured contacts. One of them has shifted a bit off centre, showing a deep brown underneath that, to Chan, looks a lot better with his skin tone. His forehead is partially hidden by a curtain of long, dark hair that has been half tugged out of its updo, but Chan sees that one side of his face is significantly redder than the other.
He’s…pretty.
This man could be somebody’s muse. He could pose for a painting and have it sold for millions.
If the man didn’t reek of cherry cough syrup and vodka, maybe Chan would have been…somewhat attracted to him. He did toy with the idea of bisexuality in university, but that was before he met Kiyomi (the girlfriend waiting for him in his bed, probably already asleep, definitely mad because he hasn’t called).
The man’s bottom lip wobbles as he averts his gaze, and Chan has to fight yet another urge to run his thumb under the stranger’s eye, right over a small, dark beauty mark. He wants to make sure that no more of this man’s tears hit the ground. The ground isn’t deserving of such grace.
Chan stops his hand before it can move because that’s insane.

Hyunjin stepped forward, the gravel crunching under his boots. “I screwed up tonight. I know. But you can’t just—”
“You screwed up every night for the last six months,” Chan cut in, voice low but shaking. “Every time you said you’d be there and you weren’t. Every time I woke up to an empty bed. Every time you came home smelling like paint instead of me.”
Hyunjin’s throat tightened. “It’s not like that. You’re twisting—”
“I’m not twisting anything,” Chan said, stepping closer now, the streetlamp catching on the shine in his eyes. “I’m just finally saying it out loud.”

“Ah, there he is,” the boy speaks, his voice soft like silk, smoothing over him like he is being covered on a stormy night. Peace floods his body, and all his worries vanish. “My saviour, my knight in shining armour,” he continues, voice bordering on a song. Chan is enchanted. He takes a step closer, eyes still fixed on those slanted eyes.
“My name is Chan,” is all he is able to mutter, unsure the boy even heard him. His eyes round for a second like they are recognizing him, before taking his own step closer to the prince.
There is still distance between them, a whole window keeping their bodies apart, yet Chan feels warm. The background noise has disappeared, and so have the castle’s walls. In this space, only the two of them exist.
“And mine’s Hyunjin.”

Crown prince Chan is saved from drowning by a mermaid, only to later find a half-dead boy that has been washed ashore. When he decides to save him, entranced by his beauty, he is not prepared for what the mysterious boy is about to unravel in his life and in his kingdom.
