A low murmur, accompanied by the soft glow of a phone screen, filled the space, “It’s nearing 4 o’clock.” Came the reply, each word laced with a mixture of concern and understanding.
He sighed, burrowing his face deeper into the pillow that was clutched in his arms. He didn’t have enough energy to feel embarrassed about it. “‘M sorry,” He muttered.
A familiar voice grew closer to him, a strong and slim hand coming to rest gently on his messy hair, “There’s nothing to apologize for, Megs.” The voice responded, its soothing tone a bandage to his tired soul.
Megumi can't find the mental strength to get out of bed. His teachers check up on him.

Hitoshi’s nails were dirty with half removed black nail polish, which looked like it had been sloppily applied, partially removed with acetone, applied again, and so on. He pursed his lips not to smile or laugh, careful not to let the kid think he was making fun of him. Instead, he nodded in understanding.
“The dreaded process of learning to apply nail polish on your own, I see.”
Hitoshi eyed him wearily.
“You sound like you’re familiar with that.”
Shouta smirked.
OR
Hitoshi tries to paint his nails, Shouta comes to his rescue, and family bonding occurs. It's fluff, with the tiniest bit of angst in the middle, if you squint.
