Summary
Our tale begins with Xie Lian hiring an escort to help him deal with an “unspeakable affliction” after a disastrous breakup forced him to leave college and return to his hometown.
Hua Cheng (or Wuming, as he is called when we first meet him) isn’t really interested in helping people—he just wants to get paid. If the situation with a client seems too complicated to deal with, he has no problem walking away. But for some reason he can’t explain, he feels compelled to help Xie Lian.
The two find themselves very quickly drawn to one another, but nothing in life is easy, especially when it comes to love.
Xie Lian is struggling to forget about the demise of the relationship that ruined his life—a struggle complicated by the fact that his ex may or may not be stalking him.
Meanwhile, Hua Cheng is busy running from a past that will soon catch up to him with deadly consequences.

“You are going home,” Yanli reaches over and tucks his hair behind his ear, giving him a tiny smile. “Don’t worry. Just a few more scans, and then Lan Zhan can take you back."
“Who’s Lan Zhan?” he asks.
The pretty man by his side inhales so sharply Wei Ying feels the air get sucked out of the room.

“I’m sorry,” Xie Lian whispered.
“No need for such words Your Highness,” Hua Cheng whispered back as he kissed him again.
Tears fell down the sides of Xie Lian’s face. “No. I meant, I’m really sorry for everything.”
For getting you involved in the war. For letting you contain a multitude of souls behind a smiling mask. For making you wait for eight hundred years. For letting you suffer time and again. For everything that brought you pain, I’m sorry.
Xie Lian was in grief. Although he didn’t tell, his pained face said it all.
Hua Cheng looked down at him with the most endearing smile and asked, “Your Highness, look at me. Does this face look like a face you’ve wronged?”
“San Lang, you can’t say it like that.” Xie Lian softly sobbed.
“Then let me tell you instead.” Hua Cheng leaned down and feathered a soft kiss on his trembling lips.
“Your Highness, I love you.”
*Xie Lian’s fears and insecurities get the better of him, so Hua Cheng both tenderly and boldly reminds him that he’ll always be by his side. *
