Harvey's hair was a little messed up, his tie was probably somewhere in the living room from the previous night, and he was still inside Mike, both of them caught in the hazy afterglow that made everything seem temporarily perfect.
Mike’s hand rested on Harvey’s back, fingers tracing slow, distracted patterns that felt half-affectionate, half-sarcastic.
Then Mike’s lips twitched, that grin sneaking up before Harvey even realized it. "Forty-five," he said.
Harvey, mid-exhale, froze. "What?"
"The score," Mike said, voice slightly rough, as if he was commenting on the weather. "Out of a hundred. Forty-five."

Summary
The issue with Future Cas is all these little, previously dismissible facets of Misha are now being brought to his attention by this version of the character. The awful self-deprecation. Laughing to cover pain. And all of a sudden, Jensen can’t unsee the way Misha does those things in day to day life, not so much at cons, but around him sometimes, or at events. Smiles and jokes and distancing himself, retreating to where he’s funny but muted, cool and safe.
They fall easily into shooting, but Jensen’s completely distracted by the fact that future Cas is basically just Misha on a bad day.

Mike socks him in the jaw and reflexively, Harvey’s fist flies out, splitting Mike’s lip. “Fuck! Sorry.”
“Get your hands up.”
“Mike -”
“Get your fucking hands up, Harvey!”
He stares. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Wrong with me? You’re the one who doesn’t give a shit until someone’s bleeding.”
“What are you talking about?”
Mike snaps. “Why would you give me a job, and a home, and a family, and then fucking decide you don’t care about me?”
“Don’t care about you?” If Mike were wise he’d heed the warning in the quiet snarl of Harvey’s voice, but there’s a giant gap between intelligence and wisdom, and he hasn’t made that leap yet. “I risked everything for you!”
“So you could avoid me?”
“I’m not avoiding you!”
“Is there a synonym you’d prefer? ‘Cause you sure don’t seem to want anything to do with me!”
They’re close enough that Mike can see the twitch of Harvey’s jaw, even in the low light. “You don’t know shit about what I want,” he whispers.
“Oh yeah? Why don’t you enlighten me.”

Summary
Harvey’s smiling, soft in a way that Mike recognizes, but after a few weeks without it, it's easier to note the intimacy, the surprising fondness from a man so guarded. It disarms him, and without thinking Mike reaches up to brush his fingers along Harvey's cheekbone then down the sinew of his neck.
A hand shoots up and circles Mike's wrist, jerking him away.
“Shit, sorry,” Mike breathes. “I -” For a breath, the overwhelming longing for things to return to normal - where Harvey took care of him, where they had each other’s backs - almost shoves an embarrassing sound from his gut, but Mike’s learned some control over the past few years so he wrenches his wrist free and passes the baby over, gently but without touching Harvey at all.
“Gotta go. Thanks for the -”
His throat starts to close so he stops talking, stumbles up, and throws his coat on before darting out the door.
Harvey doesn't try to stop him.

Harvey raises one eyebrow, and then, slowly, he nods. “All right,” he says, and the surge of excitement Mike feels is entirely premature because the next words out of Harvey’s mouth are, “Is that the best you can do?”

But then Buck picks Christopher up from a class trip and it all goes to hell.
