Life is a funny thing. Sometimes people grow up and go to school and have a career, some become travelers, and some find solace in a domestic lifestyle. Others are born and then turn into a Monster when they were seven. (Hey. Thats you.)
Monsters were released from the mountain 16 years ago and when they were released, boom! A small percentage of the world turned into monsters overnight. You considered yourself a monster more so than a human. Especially after your mother dropped you off at the facility, and didn't look back. And after all this time, all there is to do is look forward.

After years away from home (Ebott City), you return to a completely different world. A world of monsters that you had believed to be just fairy tales told to scare children. You happen to encounter quite the group of skeletons and they send your whole life for a spin. Shenanigans ensue, romance ensue, chaos ensue.
________I tried to keep the characters as close to canon (+ plenty of headcanons).

Somehow, you ended up becoming the pet of a skeleton-spider-centaur instead. Black seemed to believe you were just an animal, rather than a person. His brother on the other hand... You couldn't be sure, but he might be onto you.
(i've been asked to add a disclaimer that this is not a retelling of horrortale in a swapfell setting, so here you go. the monsters live underground, but with access to the surface at night, human eating won't be a big topic in the story)

Summary
As the skeleton gang fixes up an old hotel (the only place they could find with enough bedrooms), they think their struggles have ended. But suddenly, the owners of the neighboring new luxury homes decide having monster neighbors would bring down property values. The law is unjust towards monsters, so the skeleton "cousins" have to put up with verbal abuse and property damage or risk jail time. Luckily, the skeleton family has money, so they decide to hire a human bodyguard to help handle their troublesome neighbors.
Still in a dark place since your grandfather's death, you get to a point where you can't continue to mope around. Your emergency fund has run out, and you're facing homelessness at the end of the month. That's when you discover the perfect job, offering room, board, and pay in exchange for being a bodyguard. How will you handle life with such loving skeleton monsters when you've sworn off love for good?

Eat, sleep, work, repeat. That's your life, and it has been for a long time. The only thing you can remotely call fun is your love for cooking, which is what brings you one night to a cooking class.
You find yourself paired up with a very tall, very boisterous skeleton who by the end of the night is the first friend you've had in a while. Through him you meet other monsters and they're all just as awesome as he is, except for his brother who is absolutely terrifying.
But the more you get to know Sans, the more you start to realize that he's a lot more than just the menacing asshole he makes himself out to be.

It's safe to say that Sans is pretty fucking shocked when the machine in his basement flares and sucks him (and Papyrus... and apparently the rest of Snowdin's living residence) into a different basement, filled with other versions of himself and his brother. He's so shocked that he blinks and between one moment and the next they're all locked up. Heh, figures.
After a while of them semi-starving (filled with him making increasingly more violent threats). They are packed up and tossed on the doorstep of a confused young woman.
Confused but willing to feed and house them for no charge. So of course she and the whole town they'd been dropped off at are sorcerers, of course the runts who tossed them here would do it to others, of course he'd catch feeling like a fucking idiot.
There is a plus side to this though, well a plus side if he manages to win her over. And that is the look on the runt's skull if he ever dares to visit and realises that he'd handed his soulmate over to a 'human eating cannibal'.
Gotta love a silver lining.
