Even as he used the balcony to propel himself forward, it collapsed behind him and plumes of smoke billowed upward, filling his nostrils and eyes. The tension in the line snapped, and he was in freefall. In the distance, as he hurtled toward the ground, surrounded by pieces of the high rise, he thought he heard someone shout his name.
