Nearly every day, Evan watched the guy at the gym covered in tattoos. He tried time and time again to talk to him, offer to spot him while he handled weight heavier than the man himself, but he could never muster up the courage. He knew he wouldn't be able to convince himself to keep things platonic once he made his first move and he wasn't sure if that would be welcome, so instead he watched him from across the gym and created fantasies in his head.
This day was different, though. This day, that guy sat next to him in the empty sauna and when their knees brushed, Evan decided it was finally time to make a move.

So Remus looks up.
And something just stops.
Sirius Black has a stupid name and long black hair and he is wearing a light gray button down that makes the gray of his eyes really stand out. High cheekbones and flush lips and long eyelashes makes him pretty in a highly androgynous way and Remus feels the need to clench his jaw tightly.
Remus may be petty, and he may be angry, but he was never one to be impolite so he stands up to shake the newbie's hand. It’s all long slim fingers that look porcelain in his scarred hand and it feels wrong.
The two of them are not supposed to hold hands, touch skin, exist in the same dimensional plane - that much is very clear to Remus who just says, “Remus. Welcome.”

When the sun had wandered to the next window, low in the early spring afternoon, shining a bright gleam into the classroom and Sirius was blinded. Or maybe not fully blinded, but something close to it. Because the sun had chosen to backlight his best friend, shining rays of gold onto curly, sandy hair, making it shine like fine polished brass.
Sirius could see the swoop of long eyelashes that lined the brown eyes, still glued to the notebook in front of him. And as those sunrays danced, Sirius felt something heavy hit the pit of his stomach, simultaneously lodging itself in his throat.

“Yeah, he’s alright,” Remus responded quietly, perfectly summing up the entire ordeal, it was alright. It was alright that Remus had been fully in love with Sirius for years, to the point where he was unsure if would ever feel as strongly for another person. It was alright that even when cute, emotionally mature, smart, and available men gave him any sort of attention, the only thing Remus could feel was slightly bored. It was even alright that Remus would rather have Sirius come to seek him out at night for comfort and a chit-chat than do basically anything else.
Sirius thought a bit about that until he finally responded.

“Excuse me,” the stranger with the curls and the eyes and the nose and the lips and the hands, spoke lowly in his ear. Close enough that Sirius felt warm breath on the side of his face and it made him break out in goosebumps. He was so close. So close and so tall he had had to bend down to speak in Sirius’ ear.
The man had placed his hand on Sirius’ back in order to pass him, the squeeze behind him to get to wherever he needed to go. And in order to do so he had placed one of those large hands with the long fingers on Sirius’ back, low enough for him to feel a pinky and ring finger burn into the naked skin of his lower back. Instantly sobered up Sirius looked at him as he passed, and was only spared another one of those crooked grins and the wisp of soft t-shirt against his arm.
Light brown hair and long limbs soon disappeared in the crowd and Sirius was left with a pounding heart and weak knees.

Draco shifts his head as he turns to look at Scorpius, his cheek touching the pillow. "Did you know that…" He pauses, his throat convulsing, and it sounds audible in the silence, besides Michael's steady, even breathing from the other bedroom.
Scorpius is staring back at him, in wait of something new to learn, a beautiful and intelligent child. He has Draco's mind. He has Draco's eyes and nose and mouth and hair. He is his. All his. All he has of Michael are his wild curls and the green of his eyes, and sometimes he looks into them and imagines that they aren't Michael's, but someone else's.
Draco leans his head closer, biting the quiver out of his lips before he breathes a laden and shuddering exhale, and he whispers, "You are my star in a big black sky."

Summary

Until it almost cost him his life, until he fell lower than he knew how to get back up. He'd learned his lesson since then, learned to slow down and breathe.
But history always seemed to repeat itself, especially when one flew near the stars.
Regulus Black was the kind of prince who didn't have a crown, the kind of resident surgeon who didn't know what the fuck he was doing there. He was legally an only child, his parents' last hope at carrying on the family legacy. Little by little, he had allowed himself to be buried alive until he could no longer breathe, and it wasn't his small, insignificant acts of rebellion that were going to unearth him.
He didn't really have much reason to fight anyway, until he remembered the warmth of the sun on his skin.

This story begins like all the others: doctor meets firefighter, firefighter turns out to be the best friend of the doctor's estranged brother. They fall in love somewhere along the way.
