They'd promised Sonic they'd leave him alone. He'd trusted them to keep their word. He'd let his guard down. Gah, how could he be so stupid?
Now that Sonic's back safely in Green Hill, Nine expects the others to abandon him in the Grim. After all, they'd promised to leave him alone. Even making connections with the other two foxes doesn't push away the assumption of of a future of eternal isolation. Until the others threaten to break their promise. Just... not in the way Nine would've expected.

Nine didn't want more problems. He didn't want any more emotional turmoil. Nine just wanted to rest in peace in The Grim for the rest of his short life. But reality reminded him that there were still loose ends to tie up.
Hurt and convinced he deserves nothing, he found himself caught in a conflict orchestrated by the Chaos Council, Dr. Eggman, a certain blue hedghog that he desperately wanted to both see and not see, and that terrible yellow and happy fox that he hates.
Well, at least Green Hill has fresh air.

Or, Nine suddenly finds himself in Green Hill against his will (maybe), Tails found him and now they both start a strange relationship of frenemies (?.
Or, or, It's been a long time since I watched Prime and ever since I've LONGED to give it a different ending, for Nine especially. I love him, I love Tails, and I want they both to bond.

Shadow tries not to feel too disappointed when he wakes up on Earth, in the middle of a large crater in a forest of evergreens, alive and in enough pain that his breath stutters in his chest.
He doesn’t get to die, he thinks, nearly reduced to tears as he stares at the blue sky and tries to remember how to breathe.
This is atonement. He doesn’t get to get away from his pain this easily.
Or; an exploration of Shadow's grief and guilt and fear.
Or; Shadow is no longer property, and he does not know what to do with this knowledge that feels more constricting than freeing.
