She was locked away in the Tower—a cold, sterile research facility buried deep in the wastelands, far from the ruins of civilization. She knew its collapse only through whispered rumors and the distant, icy silence beyond the Tower’s reinforced walls. Yet, she knew that she wasn't the only thing being kept there for study.

(Y/N) merely looked back down at the pile of cards by her dominant hand and picked up another. She brought it up to eye level and admired the card for a moment, the ace of spades. It was a black skull in this deck with a sketchy outline of a spade in the background. The card's edges were fraying slightly, but so were all the cards they had given her as of late.Hurling it away from her, it sliced into the speaker and lodged firmly in the black meshing with a muffled thump.
“1480.”

Fire Lord Zuko discovers he's being followed and confronts his stalker only to learn she's been secretly hired by his Fire Nation council to protect him from an upcoming threat on his life. He and his new bodyguard determine the assassination attempt will most likely happen on the boat to a peace summit in the Northern Water Tribe, so she joins the crew to protect the Fire Lord to and from the peace summit.
There's just one problem.
Zuko's new bodyguard is a gorgeous smartass that makes the hot-blooded prince lose his temper at every turn from all her teasing.
It'll be a miracle if he lives through the assassination attempt and the cat-and-mouse flirtatious relationship they form on the way to the peace summit. Adult!Zuko/Black Female non-bender!Reader fic set between the original ATLA series and the 2026 movie.
