He couldn’t breathe.
When things go awry for Obanai and Mitsuri on a joint mission, Mitsuri has to keep calm and think fast or the secret love of her life could be gone forever. The girl paled as soon as she opened the dilapidated door, but she steeled herself and guided him inside, and it was then that he saw it, the carnage that was inside of what used to be a quaint little home. Corpses of people strewn about carelessly, their blood seeping through the tatami floor— Mom, Takeo, Hanako, Shigeru, Rokuta — seemingly against his will, his knees crumpled down onto the floor, tears filling his eyes as his throat let out the most agonizing sound…

“Kanroji-san,” Tanjirou gently pulls away from the hug. “Who’s that?”
She looks excited, and waves Obanai closer. He shuffles only a few more inches forward. “That’s Iguro-san! I met him a while ago, and we decided to pair up. Listen to this; he’s like Nezuko!”
Tanjirou still hasn’t looked away from him. “Like Nezuko?”
“Yes! He doesn’t eat humans, and eats demons instead- which, your sister doesn’t do, but still, isn’t it so amazing?”
She’s clutching at her face, blushed and animated, but Tanjirou frowns.
“What are you talking about, Kanroji-san? This man- he smells like he’s eaten mountains of innocent people.”
Everything seems to stop. This was it. This was Obanai’s dead end, where everything is uncovered. He knew he couldn’t keep up the facade, he knew he was doing such a stupid thing by working with Mitsuri, stupid, so stupid.
(In which Obanai is an infamous demon, lying to Mitsuri in order to save his head- but it seems like he's bitten off more than he can chew, because he keeps on lying, until eventually, he begins lying to himself, too.)

He stares at the peacefulness transpiring through her face, glossed lips parted gently, raven hair splayed across the pillow, and thin long eyelashes casting shadows over her cheeks, giving off an extremely pleasant sight to lie eyes upon.
A sight that Eren has always had nearby but never sought, never once stopped to admire.
