You can usually measure how much I like a character by how much I make them suffer and I just lovelovelove Jean SO much. He never stood a chance.

Stern, pleading, doubtful.
“ I need you to promise.”“ No.”, was Hyuntak’s simple reply, nonchalant and monotone.
“ You’re no match for him.”, Humin mumbled and it hurt to even voice it out loud.
He expected it to hurt Hyuntak even more, to bring out anger, a sea of insults, or even a violent yank of his collar, but the other merely raised his eyebrow in amusement.
“ He’ll kill you if you give him the chance.”, added Humin and let his eyes fall wide at the response.“ I know.”, Hyuntak chuckled, casual and honest, refusing to acknowledge the fact that those two words alone had acted as a confession.
I’d die for you. That’s nothing new.
And Humin’s eyes pleaded, begged him to take it back, to turn that fond confidence into anger and yell at him instead.

Humin cupped his cheeks, his smile lingering as he started shamelessly looking, searching for any blemishes or moles he hadn’t noticed, before it slowly dropped, as if his emotions were heavy enough for gravity to pull it down.
Because instead of marks left there by nature or the sun, Humin only found the rough line that crossed over Hyuntak's nose, harsh and uneven against his pale skin.It was a familiar sight, of course, but for some yet unnamed reason, Humin found himself staggering slightly, as if he was truly seeing it for the first time.

" Who said you're useless?", he wondered, his voice unstable with devastation and offence on Hyuntak's behalf.
" Come on, Humin-ah.", Hyuntak gave a shallow smirk, a pained and knowing thing, " You've been protecting me for years and I can't protect you for shit."
It felt as if the words had taken a physical form, sharp and cruel, and stabbed Humin in the chest, right by his rapidly beating heart.
" What are you talking about? " and he sounded genuinely puzzled, but Hyuntak didn't have a proper answer to entirely satisfy his curiosity.
" I'm trying to get stronger, dumbass.", he said instead, a shaky attempt at letting Humin get a glimpse of his thoughts.
" Assholes left and right are using me to hurt you, to get under your skin."He saw Humin freeze slightly, saw his gaze momentarily flicker towards his knee, but he had to speak and let everything out before his lips inevitably got sealed shut once again.
