Summary
Trying to get Jax to open up is a herculean task; robbing Fort Knox unseen would probably be easier. But Pomro made a promise, stupid as it was, and he was going to stick to it, and amazingly, he got his wish. He quickly discovered it was not a fairytale wish and more of a “monkey’s paw” kind of thing, but who’s counting?

Jax wasn’t upset about the argument he and Pomro got into. He did not play dice, he stuck to the formula that he knew worked: antagonize, point, laugh, repeat. Like clockwork. The odds of someone coming along who could break down his walls and peel him apart wasn’t zero, but the odds were low. Astronomically low.
So of course the little clown would manage to be her one-in-a-million chance.

Jax thought there would be a cutscene. Something like the screen fading to black, music, credits… Some stupid voice of Caine from above would tell us that we passed the game and won (or lost?)
Nothing happened. Just… it became quiet. Or loud. He wasn’t even sure which of those. That obsessive circus background music disappeared, the one Jax was now hearing in his head just like that. However, rustling appeared. The ticking of a clock. Sounds… NPCs? For some reason there were more of them than usual.
Okay, new realistic prank. Now some new adventure will start? Where is Caine?

Pomni wished she'd pushed more. Jax wished she did do, but it wasn't her fault. It was all his. He pushed everyone away and now he had to live with the reward of that decision. But that's not enough for him. He doesn't wanna stay where he is. He wants to go to where they are, where he hopes they're waiting for him. So instead of sitting alone in the dark forever, he's gonna do what's never been done before to save himself, to save his friends, and fix what he broke.

"We were so worried, we heard you—" Ragatha starts, and then looks up. She meets Jax's gaze dead-on, and goes silent. Tears brim in the corner of her eye. Her hand flies up to cover her mouth. He can't tell if the look on her face is relief or fear.
Gangle's staring at him like she's seen a ghost. Pomni slowly raises to her feet, brows furrowed. She winces as every movement jars her wavering form.
Cowered on the floor, panting, confused and disoriented, with everyone standing above him, taller than him… it reminds Jax of something deeply unpleasant. They're all staring at him. They're all seeing him.
Jax knows they're not going to like what they see.
His breath quickens until his head is spinning, and he feels like he's going to vomit. He forces himself upwards with a frustrated cry, swaying in place, and then turns and bolts towards his room as fast as he can.
"NO!" Pomni screams.
(or: pomni pulls jax back from the brink.)
