It's incredible how finding a child and saving said child can bring such warmth into someone's life. Especially to Big Mama, the cruel owner of the Nexus Arena, whose heart cries at the sight of her adored little sunshine.
Of course, when your beloved son has to fight his own brothers the only choice you have is to take in those children too.
Right?
(Or, Big Mama adopts Mikey, spoils him rotten while Draxum trains him, and when he's forced to fight his own brothers who thought he was dead, Big Mama decides to get those children some therapy and the parental love they need.)

Summary
Life was looking better for JD. He was working on himself, no longer lost to grief over his brothers. His life was not perfect, not by a long shot, but it finally felt like he could get out of bed with minimal effort.
He was content; hell, he was even happy! which means life has decided to humble him again. This time, instead of the crushing realization that all his friends and loved ones are dead it takes the form of something far worse.
Two teenagers who decided that they would rather suck the life essence from him then go to a vocal coach.

Summary
Surviving in the wilderness really isn't all it's cracked up to be.
After being gone for a year, John Dory returns to the Troll Tree to find it completely empty. Save for one troll: His baby brother, Branch. Thinking the trolls and the rest of his family dead, he sets off once again to the Neverglade Trail, this time, with his baby brother in tow. Fueled by fear, guilt, and voices from the past he just can't seem to escape, he wonders if he made the right decision.
But he promised his brother he would never leave him again. So he wouldn't.
Besides, he was never known for his great decisions anyways.
(Based on the song "Great Decisions" by Judah & the Lion)

Or... I needed to write more John Dory and Branch ANGST, so here's my rewrite of canon, where John Dory goes back and raises Branch out in the wilderness, and other subsequent shenanigans. Let's see how this goes, shall we?
