Summary
The newest Lich Lord, Emmrich Volkarin, ponders what it means to be undead in a world of the living. A world where his body no longer feels quite like his own, where his heart has ceased yet still beats for another, and where the abyss of eternity threatens to draw him away unless he holds fast to his Rook, his love, his anchor in the present.

Summary
A morning spent teaching Manfred the finer points of chess proves to be a test of patience, even for the boundlessly patient Professor Emmrich Volkarin. When Rooklyn joins them in the Memorial Gardens, she offers a far, far simpler game involving a deck of cards and some very flexible rules.

Summary
Crossover: Napoleon Dynamite x Dragon Age: Veilguard
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Emmrich Volkarin's teenage years were more like those of Napoleon Dynamite, the ultimate gangly awkward teenager? I sure have! Why? I love the outsider perspective of Napoleon Dynamite, it's relatable and rewards with nuance if you dig deeper. I see a clear parallel between Napoleon and Emmrich, the latter as the outsider who's learned to social awkwardness but occasionally lets the mask slip. This work is a labour of love and exploration of this parallel.
How Does This Work?
This is not just reskinning. Napoleon's arc sets the timeline, scenes (some shot-for-shot), plot points and base dialogue, it's then transposed to Thedas - recast, rewritten to reflect Emmrich's point of view. Outcomes for Napoleon and Emmrich are the same in many places - but their motivations and reasons are different! Hopefully this delivers something cohesive, funny and interesting even if you don't know the movie - but if you do? I hope you enjoy the finer details in the translation. So put away your lore books and dig out your Vote for Pedro shirt - your old friends are waiting.

Summary
[CW: food-related childhood trauma]
Emmrich asks a simple question about Rooklyn's motivation to not eat meat, and winds up opening a far deeper conversation about her experiences growing up as a foundling. The evening's revelations confirmed a suspicion he'd held about Rooklyn, but it seems that they have much more in common than he'd previously anticipated.

Summary
Out of hope, out of time and facing an eternity trapped in Solas' Fade prison, Rook must find peace with herself and her decisions in order to find a way out. This story is often told as a tale of three regrets - two for the fallen and one for the missing, but little is heard of the fourth regret - the one for the heart and the words left unsaid.

Summary
Ars Vivendi, or The Art of Living
"In a world where tomorrow is uncertain, don't take today for granted. Today is where the world is lived, now, at whatever pace it needs to be lived by those choosing each other to live it with. Your mother's tree branch story be damned, Harding. If that's all that hits any of us in the face today? Then it's been a good day."
-- Rooklyn "Rook" ingellvarSet in the world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this series covers adventures and romance between Rooklyn and Professor Emmrich Volkarin, senior necromancer of the Mourn Watch. While they've had some similar formative experiences in their early life, their approaches to life are a contrast - Rooklyn's learned to seize the day while Emmrich fears the sunset. Through each other they learn the Art of Living - that living with gratitude, presence, acceptance, trust and love is well worth the price to be paid tomorrow.

Summary
Death, it seemed, was Emmrich Volkarin’s oldest acquaintance, and not by choice, but rather, by grave circumstance.
-
With Death’s appearances came the sheer terror, the cold sweats and panic attacks that would render Emmrich all but useless in the face of his impending doom. To die. To embrace the unknown. To be forgotten. The accolades he achieved, the knowledge he gained, the relationships built along the way, would ultimately amount to nothing. Gone from this plane with the first gust of wind, receding with the melting snow as spring promised warmth along the horizon. The only proof he had ever lived would be his rotting flesh, the gold sitting atop his bones. And who would come to care for his grave then? It would become a relic, fading into obscurity within the Necropolis’ vast tombs, another ruin for its growing aggregation.

Summary
Altus Mira Mercar has spent her life performing with flawless technique, trapped beneath the expectations of her powerful noble family. A celebrated violin prodigy, she is entered into the prestigious Archon’s Centennial Duo Competition, a stage where reputation, lineage, and perfection matter as much as music itself. Her assigned partner is Professor Emmrich Volkarin, a famed pianist and scholar whose brilliance is undeniable, though his humble standing makes him an unexpected and controversial match for an Altus of Mira’s rank. At first, their partnership is defined by contrast: Mira’s polished restraint against Emmrich’s soulful, emotionally rich playing. But as they rehearse, argue, and learn to listen beyond the notes, their music begins to reveal what neither of them dares to say aloud. As Mira and Emmrich slowly fall in love, their bond threatens everything society has arranged for them. Mira’s family’s ambitions, her unwanted engagement, and the rigid class walls of the Tevinter Imperium. Together, they must decide whether love is worth defying tradition, and whether two hearts, resonating in perfect harmony, can create a future stronger than the world trying to silence them.
