  2. Summary

I write as a way for my brain to break the Laws of Motion! And here we are...

Kallum and Alessia Peregrine, twins in New York City! Kal, a cunning chemist-turned-writer, and Sia, a woman who knows a lot of things, who has a plan for her life she’ll see through. They use the name of one of the brightest minds of their time, Dame Anna Hanover, a charming woman who hides far too much behind a cheerful smile, to get their words and names out there. The words draw in Dakkar Cavendish, a brilliant inventor who feels like he’s made promises—but to who, he doesn’t know.

The editor, Charles, hates his job, and is reluctantly convinced into printing the twins’ words. John Herschel won’t be a pawn, his plan to launch his and his dearest friend’s invention drawing near. Benjamin, the governor, seethes with jealousy, watching the Satellite with growing bitterness.

And in the distance, a Traveller with far too much behind her waits, refusing to fail anyone else. A young man with a pencil grins far too brightly, as his pencil gleams with ink, ready to take down your words. Only your words, of course.

What are you waiting for? Don’t be scared of the dark. That’s where the dreaming starts.

    Summary

They have been in the store for forty-five minutes (forty-four of which involve various, grumbling complaints from Carol) before Helen notices the garden section.

“Oh my God, look at this thing,” Helen exclaims, coming to an abrupt halt in front of a plant. Carol, begrudgingly pushing the cart, almost crashes straight into her legs, but manages to catch herself before that actually happens.

She steps around to stand beside Helen, peering down at the plant. She looks at it, really looks at it, then looks back at Helen. “It’s forty-five dollars. For a flower. Forty-five, Helen. Four and then a five.”

    Summary

Iron Lung (2026) is a film dedicated to the eternal nature of hope, but Captain Ava is defined by desperation so deep that it becomes a survival instinct necessary to her worldview. When she was younger, Ava watched her entire universe become dark and empty - the Quiet Rapture destroying almost all of humanity and every hospitable planet, leaving an entire society split across a handful of spaceships, with limited resources and no hope for survival. Witnessing the formation of the Consolidation of Iron, and the new stringent world order that accompanied it, would have forced Ava to create an immovable sense of self from a young age. When this view is challenged, she resists - subsequently betraying herself and her perceived duty to humanity by intentionally sacrificing lives in the name of progress - a pattern which is destroyed when she is confronted with the convict Simon, and his unjustifiable desire to survive simply for the sake of life.

    Summary

She clings tight to those memories, refusing to let them escape. She keeps her mind spinning, like if she stops thinking for even a second, those memories vanish into nothing once more.

She won't let them go. She can't, not after so long.

"The Bonadventure—" she gasps out, the words leaving her in a rush. "Cyrus, Mary Katharine!"

Her friends! Her friends she had forgotten—oh, where are they? Cyrus with his brilliant smile and Captain's airs, Mary with her wit and determination. When last she'd seen them, they had been planning, trying to—

    "Margaret, I'm so sorry!"

All other thoughts fall away at that familiar cry.

    Oh.

    Margaret looks up.

    Or

I think about Margaret’s delivery of those lines in Phantom Pain a lot. So I wrote over a thousand words about it.

    Summary

The first thing Margaret noticed about the Child of the Gates was her smile.

There was something unique about it. It was a shining light in the dark—when Margaret thought back on that night, on her fiftieth birthday. Before she lost her mother, before the day forever changed for the rest of her night.
