Lucas sits beside Max every day that she is in the hospital.
After waking up, catching up with everyone, and being filled in on all of the bullshit that went down, Max is in bad shape and in need of extensive physical therapy. Prom is 6 months away. Max refuses to be wheechair bound for one of the most important days of her highschool life.
Or: I, as someone with chronic pain and mobility issues, was upset by the lack of disability representation in Stranger Things season 5 after a perfect set-up for a disabled character and decided to take measures into my own hands hehehe.

“I need to cut my hair.” Max states abruptly, and the severity of her voice manages to diminish any amusement Lucas may have gained from the sudden change in topic and mood.
“You need to– oh, okay. Um, I have a– This could work?” Lucas obtains a small knife from his pocket, and Max stares down at the item in surprise.
“You’ve been carrying around a pocket knife… this entire time?” Max asks, utterly bewildered.
or, Max and El find themselves in a painful situation, and Lucas helps calm Max down (+ she gets a haircut out of it)
