"You aren't supposed to be here." the woman tells her.
"Is your name on this damn bridge?" Vi bites back, not yet opening her eyes to regain focus.
"I'm sorry but I really need this bridge to be alone and...if you could please leave, I'd appreciate it." the woman says, an accent so thick it might as well have clogged her throat.
That's it.
Vi opens her eyes and turns her head to get a good look at her.
"Listen here you—" the words got caught in her throat at that moment, her initial thought and insult that sat on the tip of her tongue.
Her grip on the railing unconsciously softened, unaware of how the tension had slowly started to slip away.
The woman was so beautiful, Vi almost didn't want to jump.

I saw a post abt this concept on tumblr and my brain worms produced this. (HELLO: UPDATE: I SAW A FUCKING POST WHICH SPURRED ME ON TO WRITE THIS. BUT I ALSO HAD A POST SAVED BY CAMWOLFE WHO HAS WRITTEN A FANFIC WITH THIS EXACT CONCEPT & IT WENT INTO MY FOLDER OF TBR FANFICS & GENUINELY I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I FORGOT ABOUT IT. I AM MORTIFIED. THEY CAME UP WITH THIS AU CONCEPT AND IT WAS ALMOST DEFINITELY IN THE BACK OF MY MIND EVEN IF I DIDNT REALISE!! please please go and read their work- I've not read it yet but I'm sure it is so much better than mine!! it's camwolfe on here. they were so lovely about it all. ty!!)
Vi is arrested before ANY of the deaths happen, & ends up in Stillwater for 7 years, before escaping. This fic will chronicle her recovery, & how her life develops and blossoms w/ it. Caitvi WILL be in this fic bc im not separating my beloved lesbians + I'm an autistic caitlyn truther and am autistic so inadvertently end up writing all characters as autistic
politically, a lot is different in this fic. the conflict w/ Sevika/Vander didn't happen in the same way, the firelights, as well as Silco/etc make up part of a representative group for Zaun's independence etc!!

Summary
Freshly graduated from the police academy, Caitlyn Kiramman is determined to prove to her fellow officers that she is more than just a rich girl with a pretty face. After overhearing her commanding officers talking about an illegal fighting ring in the Undercity, she goes to investigate for herself with the hopes of gathering evidence to prove her worth.
What she finds is the equivalent of a nightmare, people being put inside the ring to fight each other to the death like dogs. It’s inhumane torture at the price of earning a profit and providing entertainment for a crowd. It gets even worse when she finds out one of the top fighters is someone no older than her, a pink haired girl with metal-clad fists and a sharp tongue to match, who’s fighting spirit reminds her far too much of her own.
It’s quickly discovered that something far more dangerous is brewing beyond the walls of Piltover, something that is far worse than anyone could have prepared for.

And even as Caitlyn tried her best to distract her - getting Sevika to spar with her, taking her down to Jericho’s for mid-week impromptu dates, praising the work she was getting done with the Firelights until she blushed and couldn’t hide a smile - there was always something dark hovering, shadowing the corners of Vi’s smiles; sometimes further away, sometimes breathing down her nape. The weight of it loomed. Vi seemed used to its presence, but Caitlyn swore it only grew bolder - like it was merely sharpening its teeth while biding its time.
No one else could see it, but Caitlyn could. Vi’s left eye kept twitching whenever it was close by.
(Or: Caitlyn and Vi are working hard to rebuild Piltover and Zaun after the war. But when Caitlyn finds out the truth about Vi's time in Stillwater, the two cities are forced to reckon with the past if they want to carve out a future.)
