Of course, there are still plenty of things that could go wrong. He could forget his lines. He could get sidetracked by a statement or something and forget about the plan altogether. He could suddenly take ill and have to be rushed to hospital.

He didnt mind being the only 'flightless' person down there [but its not like any of them could actually fly]. Even when jon puffed up his wings to try and look more intimidating. Even when he glimpsed Tim and sasha preeing eachother on their lunchbreaks. Even when the scared little animal living between his lungs woke and began to claw its way up his throat.

And that was it. Jon was found, he was taken to a hospital, and that was that. After he healed, he was on the move. It was simple enough to find out he wasn't in his world anymore, especially when he saw himself. Younger. Happier. Himself, though. Jon needed to get out of the universe and back to his own.
Back to Martin.
Finding the Rift was easy enough and he was off. Then there was another world. Another. Another… Getting back wouldn't be easy, it seemed. Still, Jon would do whatever it took to return to his love.

Martin’s been acting odd, lately.
For the past few weeks he’s been more involved in Jon’s business than usual. Martin had always had a tendency of giving Jon unsolicited advice, usually about his eating and sleeping habits, but the frequency had grown.

Future Martin and Jon exchanged a look that Martin couldn’t decipher.
They seemed to be in agreement, though, because then Future Martin looked at him and said, “Do you want to join?”OR
A time travel fix-it, but really the time travel is just an excuse for Jon to get railed.

“Hey, woah,” Martin chuckles, “not that I'm complaining, but what’s gotten into you?”
Without preamble, Jon had thrown his arms over Martin’s shoulders, shoved his nose into the crook of Martin’s neck, and inhaled intently. He let out a deeply satisfied groan on the exhale.
Jon stutters, pulling away slightly, his face burning. “ah, sorry. I-I’m not entirely sure myself. I just…”
He trails off, hands coming around to land on Martin's soft exposed shoulders. His skin still buzzes warm from the summer heat under Jon’s finger tips. Martin gives Jon's waist a gentle squeeze, encouraging him to go on.
Jon clears his throat, the words tumble like stones from his mouth, “You smell really good. I mean, you always do, but right now especially. I like it.”

"I have to go", Martin says, and Jon knew, he knew, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. "Jon", he says again, more insistently, though the urging tone is laced through with something straining, pained. "Jon, I have to- I need to go."
"I know", Jon says, doesn't move.
"This shouldn't have happened", Martin says into the space between them, even as his fingers clench around Jon's waist.
"I know."
"We should regret this", Martin whispers, and maybe he's right. He should be right.
Jon swallows.
"I know."

Wearing sensible shoes and with a raincoat bundled up in his backpack together with a voice recorder, an underwater camera, three notebooks, and a packed lunch, along with various other paraphernalia, Jon sallied out into the October drizzle in search of the Beast of Hexley Lake.
He didn’t expect to find the Beast immediately, of course. Cryptids were notoriously shy in general, and water-dwellers even more so, given that they tended to live at the bottoms of lakes and the deepest parts of the sea and thus were not terribly accessible by humans. So it came as quite a surprise when he stopped off in the local post office to make enquiries and was met with a look of mingled surprise and pride.
“Oh aye,” the woman there told him. “That’s our Martin, that is. Never heard of anyone taking an interest in him before. They’re all off up Loch Ness way.”

Cryptozoologist Jonathan Sims has finally gained funding for a field study of the Beast of Hexley Lake. He doesn’t expect to fall in love with the Beast along the way, but these things happen. Right? Right??
