She's still talking, but Aaron can't hear over the blood rushing in his ears. The last time he had this conversation, his mother died. "Where is he!?" he finally says, too loud, but the panic rising within doesn't care. "Is he dead?"
"He's stable but unconscious. Do you know his blood type?"
Aaron freezes, then looks at the building behind him. "Hold on." He takes a breath that does nothing to quell his nerves before he runs inside. The elevator will take too long and he may pull his hair out having to wait for it to take him up to their floor, so he slams open the door to the stairwell. When he makes it up, he runs to the girls' room. It only takes a few frenzied knocks before Allison wrenches the door open.
"What!?"

Kevin Day doesn't do apologies. He doesn't feel guilty about hurtful remarks when judging the foxes playing abilities. When he tells Nicky to shut up, he does so with force. When he waves off flirting, he does so with frowns.
The last time Kevin said he was sorry was when he was curled up on a hotel bed with his head in Aaron's lap. His hand hadn't healed yet because it had just been broken. Aaron sees the reflection of that moment in Kevin's eyes now.

Summary
Kevin is returning from his evening jog when he comes across the dog outside his apartment building. Kevin was doing a ten kilometre loop when it started to rain. By the time he got to his last kilometre, the rain had turned into a downpour. He’s soaked through, his running gear clinging to him. The dog doesn’t look much better. They look a bit like a drowned rat, damp fur clinging to their body and big eyes gazing up at Kevin. They’re trembling, body pressed against the wall between some of the shrubbery outside the entrance. An attempt to make the place look greener.
Kevin slows his pace. He looks around, wondering if someone just let their dog off lead, but there’s no one to be seen. He can see the water droplets coming down heavy under the streetlamp glow. The moon had been clearly visible earlier in his run, but the skies have gotten cloudy now, hiding it from view. The dog whimpers. Kevin is only a man. He kneels down.

One day Aaron was his friend, someone he had gotten a lot closer to in the couple of years since Neil had joined the team, the pair of them falling to the wayside far more often with Andrew and Neil disappearing together. Sure, Kevin could recognise things that were attractive about him. He wasn’t attractive in a conventional way, but he had nice eyes, a cute splattering of freckles, a dimple that only appeared when he smiled really wide, his teeth were surprisingly straight and even despite his upbringing and abuse, only the right incisor chipped, slanting down into a point. He had thick, powerful legs, strong shoulders, biceps that bulged beneath his clothes when he moved his arms a certain way. Kevin could appreciate these things, but he held no real attraction for Aaron. Next day, he did, sudden and unexpected as a riptide pulling his feet out from under him in the ocean.

“But I didn’t drink it. Aaron drank it. While looking at me.”
“So, what, Aaron’s in love with you now?” Neil asks. Aaron scoffs, a blush rising on his cheeks. He takes a straw from one of the empty glasses on the table and flicks it across the table at Neil, who bats it away.
“This is stupid. And it’s bullshit. Love potions are not real. Besides, I wouldn’t need a potion to fall in love with Kevin. He’s wonderful.”

“Kevin could do worse,” Andrew says evenly, which is as close to an explicit compliment as he’ll go.
