And Scar can tell she says it on purpose, he can see the smugness in the way her lips tilt up, he can see the satisfaction in her eyes. She knows she had him trapped before she even spoke.
He decides, quite easily, that if he is willing to do this for Grian, then he is also willing to do this for Pearl.
Or, Scar finds himself wrapped up in centuries-old customs that are much larger than himself. No one is surprised when he stumbles into love.

Grian thinks this is frankly bullshit and is going to prove these fans wrong once and for all.

Summary
The rain had been mercilessly pouring onto the poor, little town since morning, showing no signs of stopping. Grian was hunched over her desk, grading her students’ exams and trying her best to not pull her hair out while doing so. Some answers made her want to scream. After deciding that she can’t take anymore, she put the pile of papers away and leaned back into her chair, staring out the window. Everything outside was a soft grey or blue, street lights like distant, glowing orbs hovering in the sky, and a layer of water on about all that the rain touched—the view instead of looking dull and depressing, looked magical.
Grian pushed her glasses up her nose and swivelled her chair to look at her girlfriend sitting on the couch, looking out the window with longing in her eyes. Scar was a vampire. And just as the myths claimed, she couldn’t step out in the sun without burning. Today was one of the few days the sun was covered by a thick blanket of dark clouds. Grian could tell what Scar wanted and Grian could also tell Scar was hesitating to go alone, and simultaneously she also didn’t want to disturb Grian from her work.

Grian would say she was a pretty normal high schooler. She did cheer, dressed preppy enough, gossiped, and was popular enough. She knew the type of person she was, and she stuck by it. So yeah, she had an average life, with absolutely nothing that caused any internal turmoil or intense amounts of questioning.
Except for maybe...
Scar Goodtimes, the girl who she had been friends with since they were both little fourth graders selling girl scouts cookies together. The girl who had seemingly permanently altered her brain chemistry and life overall since sixth grade. The girl who to this day still both made Grian feel safe to indulge in mostly any conversation with, yet incongruously made Grian nervous beyond her wits and left her a blushing, stumbling mess.
It had been years with these same reactions, and yet Grian still could not quite understand why even the mere mention of Scar had such a profound effect on her. Something about the other girl messed with Grian in some way that made her want to spend all the time in the world with her, yet dually run fifty meters in the opposite direction out of sheer anxiousness.

Summary
The moment between sleeping and waking was a drawn-out tenuous thing, a warm darkness with an absence of true consciousness. Scar floated in that darkness with only the faintest awareness of her physical body. She was still asleep, and knew she was still asleep, but wasn't able to move or bring herself back to complete wakefulness.
Very faintly, Scar became aware of a familiar heat unfurling through her body, hot and syrupy. Oh, Scar thought distantly, it was going to be that kind of a night. She let herself press closer into that feeling, sinking into it as pleasure sparked dully throughout her body.
But she couldn't stay in that state of partial sleep forever; she had to wake up eventually.
Lucidity came back to her as a blurred picture, leaving her to bring it slowly into focus. Her room was still nighttime-dark, and she was so, so warm. There was a solid heat at her back, arms wrapped loosely around her torso, a wing draped overtop her like another blanket. There was a mouth at her neck, a hand splayed just beneath her rib cage.
Scar drew in a sharp breath, tensing involuntarily in Grian's arms—it had to have been Grian behind her, who else could it be?
