“What’s going to happen?” Peter whispers softly to his mother once they are alone again.
Mary cups the boy’s face in her hands. For ten years she was able to keep her son away from the life of criminals and psychopaths. After she fled, Tony put in a rule that all hospitals must keep children in custody until a DNA test is completed. There was no way Mary could sneak Peter out.
“He is going to come. I’m sure he will have a few Avengers with him. They will probably separate us.”
Peter grabs her hands, “I won’t let them do that.”
“Peter” Mary leans forward, placing her forehead on his. “Do not fight him. We are both going to do what he instructs. That is the only way to get through this. I…I’m sure he won’t allow us to see each other for a long time. Definitely not until he thinks we are compliant. If we just do what he wants, the sooner we will see each other again. Do you understand?”
The thirteen-year-old nods his head, again allowing tears to flow. “I love you mom.”“I love you too.”
The sound of the door opening causes the duo to freeze. Mary’s blood feels like ice when she hears an all too familiar voice taunt “Daddy’s home.”

Summary

No one's surprised when Pepper suggests an alternative to the Sokovian accords before the councilman can even propose the idea. It’s Pepper after all. Of course, she waits until the councilman leaves before dropping the real bomb. The public needs to see a deliberate, personal movement. They need to see the lives of the Avengers be affected by the losses they leave.
When Peter Parker gets a call from his social worker, he just knows he's being kicked out of yet another foster home. When he burst into her office to see the Avengers waiting to adopt him, he’s sure that it was their way of inviting Spiderman to join the team. Luckily the Avenger’s like to discuss vigilantes over breakfast. A small tingle of non-spidey-sense-related nerves flutter in his stomach when Tony complains about the lack of cameras in Queens, but it isn’t until the heroes start suggesting possible people or personalities for the man behind the spider mask that he realizes he has no clue what’s going on.Series

He was right.

Tony never expected to be a father. Not after Afghanistan. However he remember Mary Fitzpatrick. She was the last woman he slept with before Ten Rings decided to play open heart surgery on his chest and torture him 9 months ago. So he didn't need to even do a paternity test when two strangers break into the tower and tell him she died in childbirth, and that some psycho had decided to use his newborn son as a test subject and put him to the brink of death. He decided, then and there, three things: One, find a way to fix the arc reactor so he can see his son grow up; Two, that he would NEVER be Howard Stark and Three, when, and he did mean, when his son survived, he would make the fucker who did this to him PAY. Iron Man, an Avenger, had stumbled inside the Emergency Room just a moment ago, his suit gleaming wet in the harsh neon-lights. In his arms, he was holding the teenager New York – and the world – had come to identify as the 'Queens Orphan'. It looked as if he was sleeping, cradled securely in Iron Man's grip like a child.
But there was too much blood for that to be the case.After their return to New York and with the adoption still pending, Tony struggles with the boundaries of being a legal guardian while Peter fears that moving to Manhattan means he is losing his connection to Queens and his life there. When Peter's danger-sense starts acting up in the face of an unknown threat and an unexpected visitor drops by with news from Steve, the simmering conflict comes to a head, forcing both Peter and Tony to admit some things they'd rather kept to themselves.
Like the fact that Tony didn't tell Peter the entire truth about Germany.
