The Replacement sighed. “The Justice League’s been off-world for a few days,” he began. “We lost contact day one, and things have been shitty around here, too. Darkseid and all that.” He waved a hand, almost dismissive. “Anyway…Superman sent Alfred a message yesterday, asked him to get everyone ready for bad news.”
Jason felt his heart hit the bottom of his gut. “Boss Man’s dead?”

Summary
It was like this between them, had been since day one. The easy camaraderie they had was years in the making, and possibly the only reason Jason had yet to summarily execute his older brother. It made the hard days easier and the hard nights faster, the unspoken knowledge they had, the promise that they were together in it all. It was all over the signatures on the lease and the scars on Jason’s arms, the ammunition in the bedroom and the food in the kitchen. This was life, lived together. Survival, if only for bragging rights.
