Chapter 4:
Jason is sprawled on his back, limbs tangled in odd folds of comforter, pillow slipped somewhere near his feet. His pajama pants are rucked to his mid-calf, twisted so their seams are off center. The sheets around him are damp with sweat and his shirt has been discarded. On his bare chest, is a scar.
The sunlight relieving the room leaves little imagination to its cause.

Summary
There's the snap of a twig a few feet away from him. If he was a greener vigilante, Tim would whirl around and point his torch towards it. Instead he continues on his leisurely walk, throwing the torch up and down but his hands strays to the collapsible bō staff attached to his thigh holster. He won't pull it out yet. The whistle of it through the air would be too loud, too obvious that he's getting ready to be on the defensive.
Another sound behind him, closer this time, and he's only got a second to dodge the thing that goes flying past him, scratching against the ground. He's waiting for whatever it is to stop hurtling through the air to hit it but gapes when it slaps against the tree instead of the ground. There's a short yelp but it's deafened by the sound of the tree being pulled out of the ground, dirt falling onto the path and roots coming into view.
Was that... Was that an animal?

Summary
A dizzying tension seemed to fill Dick’s head the longer he stared, obscuring any semblance of a reasonable thought. None of it made sense: the bright red outfit where every other Shadow wore black, the way his sword looked both natural and out of place in his skilled hands, the fact that he seemed oddly…familiar.
Was he even real?
“Is that a sword in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” The words slipped out before Dick could bite his tongue, and he found himself wishing the assassin would rethink his position on not killing him, if only to spare Dick any further humiliation. “That came out wrong…”
During a self-imposed sabbatical from the team, Dick encounters the strangest of mysteries in Gotham City involving the League of Shadows, a ninja dressed in Red, and a long-lost Robin he thought to be dead.

For a moment, the cave is silent, as frozen as the black screen that encompasses the Batcomputer.
And then Tim’s hands are falling to seize the handrests of the Batchair, spinning it around. Bent over, his face, furious and openly agonized, is right in front of Damian's.
“What,” Tim says, voice dangerous, shaking in an effort to stay calm. “Are you doing.”
Or, the Batcomputer has case files for everything the Batfamily encounters. Everything includes Jason's death.

Summary
Jason’s head is still spinning, he’s still cold and his body is still hurting, but at least he can breathe. His body is slowly returning back to life, like bulbs slowly turning on in a long hallway. His heart speeds up, which is a common reaction once he wakes up, like trying to make up for the time it stopped. The numbness slowly leaves his body, and he can move his hands and legs again, but he doesn’t want to.
His vision clears, no longer tinted green, and there is saliva in his mouth again. His lungs slowly stretch.
He sees… Bruce. Shit.
He really, really didn’t want Bruce to see him like this. Let alone the rest of his batkids.
Or, dying and being brutally dragged back to life has horrifying side effects, which Jason really wants to keep hidden from the Batfamily. Until one day, he can't.

Jason barely even registered dropping to his knees.
Damian was safe.
There was a hand was on his shoulder in an instant. Jason blinked slowly, dimly wondering when Tim had gotten there too. Tim’s mouth was moving, and at some point a hand had cupped Jason’s cheek.
A heavy raindrop hit the top of his head and Tim was still talking except he wasn’t actually saying anything at all, the strengthening wind stealing his voice away. No. It wasn’t the wind. The wind wasn’t that strong. Tim was just forgetting to actually talk.
Tim glanced behind himself then, addressing Dick because Dick was there, Dick was real. Tim was real too. They were real, even if Jason himself wasn’t.
The hand on his shoulder tightened and all at once he was being hugged hard.
Jason didn’t know why Tim was bothering to hug him at all, he should be checking in on Damian. Damian wasn’t screaming, he was sobbing, and instead of trying to push away from Dick he was now clutching onto him as if Dick was a lifeline.
And Dick was a lifeline, he always had been, even when Jason had known that Dick was worlds away.

It's the... what the fuck?
The toxin's never been like this before. It creates hallucinations and triggers the fear receptors in your brain but it doesn't shove you into your worst memories and makes you feel like you are actually in there. Like you're actually living through it again.
The pain, the fear... they were as sharp as when he actually suffered it.
That was... way more than what he signed up for.
He looks for Bruce, but the man isn't there. Tim is next to the Batcomputer, talking into a recording device.

Tim thinks Jason is immune to fear toxin, so the best (and only) plan they have to combat Scarecrow's new formula is to test it on him and get an antidote ASAP.
Jason might've been bluffing when he said that the poison didn't affect him - but he'll be damned if he lets Barman see him scared. Again.
So he accepts.
Unfortunately, the Lazarus Pit effects force his family to live through his most painful, terrifying memories with him.
And none of them know what to do.

“Don’t you see?!” Jason yelled, his voice strained as tears dripped down his face and mixed with the rainwater. “The fear gas doesn’t matter. Because this is what it feels like - what I feel like - every second of every day. And it’s because of you!”
Dick flinched as Jason swayed dangerously on the edge of the rooftop. Jason’s hands were shaking violently, almost as much as his body, and Dick knew it wasn’t from the icy rain or the relentless winds. Tim seemed to notice it as well because he froze in his efforts to sneak closer to Jason from the other side. Damian even stopped his quiet cursing on the line about not being there.
“I feel nothing but fear and pain every day because I love you more than I hate him,” Jason threw his arms out in the vague direction of Arkham where the Joker sits alive in a cell, “But your code means more to you than I do. It means more than me. And that means he’s still alive and I’m left digging myself a new grave. Because it’s—fuck it’s killing me, but I can’t lose you guys. Not again.”
