“Pigeon,” she corrects, almost idly. Then, she pulls him closer to her, ignoring his confused hum. “Gregory, I need you to know that this isn’t going to stop just because we have a new baby.”
He stares at her, confused.
“Storytime is time for us,” she tells him. She grabs his little fist, and she forces him into a pinky promise. “So, whenever you need it, we’re going to have storytime. And whenever I need it, we’re going to have storytime. Understood?”

Benedict jerks upright. “What?”
“I love you,” Anthony says levelly, "and happy early birthday.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, Ant, but I didn’t know you were someone who got sappy.”
Anthony swallows, deliberating what to say. When his father told him he intended to start a tradition, did he mean just with Anthony? Or did he mean with all eight of his children? If Anthony admits that this was their father’s doing, that this was their father’s idea all along, would it ruin whatever festive mood he tried to create? Or if he said nothing, would it be improper, as if he was taking credit for something Edmund invented all on his own?

Gregory adjusts his mirror for the fifth time, trying to decide whether or not he wants to attempt backing up.
“I’m listening,” he says.
“There’s a Bridgerton curse,” Hyacinth says.
That gets Gregory’s attention.
He puts the car back into park, stops white-knuckling the steering wheel, and faces her.
“Are you… going to elaborate? Or did you want to just say something dramatic?” Gregory asks.
“There’s a Bridgerton curse that activates—”
“ —activates?”
“—the second you turn eighteen, and you’ve turned eighteen, so you’re not going to be able to avoid it.” Hyacinth straightens, giving up on dabbing at the smeared mascara. “I have been training to avoid it, but you haven’t.”

Bruce’s hand closed around yet another object. Bruce didn’t quite understand when he pulled it out. It was a rather small sneaker. The colors, once bright, were faded. Two velcro straps were bent and kinked into a twisted shape. There was lint on the velcro rendering it useless. Bruce had the vague memory of Dick picking the shoes out nearly a month after he’d first moved in. But Bruce felt that the memory couldn’t be true. They were surely too small.

Dick took a glance over his shoulder, he knew that Bruce was at a gala tonight, hence why he’s at the Batcave and not back at his apartment in Bludhaven, but he still felt like a kid going through their Dad’s things.
He suppresses a smirk, pulling out the first one and placing it into the old school cassette deck that was built into the computer. Bruce refused to upgrade, trusting the physical versions more than clouds or firewalls, despite Barbaras opposition.
It clicks and whirs, the audio starting up, a bit scratchy, yet so familiar.

Unsurprisingly, as it is eight in the morning, it goes to voicemail. Damian waits impatiently for the beep. “Richard,” he says, in tones of the deeply suffering, “this place is a hostile environment. I must be collected post-haste, as after this latest indignity I am dropping out. Come at once, or I may die here.”
The dynamic duo attend a parent-teacher conference. No one has a good day.
