Zuko wakes up after their fight with Tagah first. None of their friends know of their relationship yet, however seeing Sokka’s lifeless body in the waters is enough for him to pour the secret right out of him.
Now, as he promised his lover he would never turn into the sun, he pleas with Sokka to not convert himself into one with these frozen waters.

Before Sokka could get his cycle ready to join the others in the final battle, members of the Denied crash in, keeping him trapped. They realize Sokka is one of the members in the Avatar’s crew who is a nonbender:
"Is it that hard to believe I disagree with your extremist ways? There are other ways to feel included in the world, without having to steal a staff and harass a whole city to prove your point." He says bluntly.
"It is hard to believe. Because as a nonbender, do you not feel weak? Less powerful? Each time you and the Avatar team up, how do your contributions speak out better than the others?"

"Uh, I haven't told him yet," Buck says. "I wanted to talk to you first."
Maddie puts down her spoon, eyes widening. "Oh." She presses a hand to her heart. "Oh, wow. Okay, well, I'm honored that you wanted to tell me first."
"Of course," Buck says quickly. "What you think — your opinion means so much to me." He reaches over to squeeze her hand. "You know me so well."
Her eyes fill, and she turns her head to wipe them on her shoulder. "That means a lot. You're going to be a great parent — foster parent — to Theo. I know it."
"Thanks, Maddie," Buck says, blinking away his own tears.
"You know what else I know?"
"What?"
"You're going to feel better after you talk to Eddie. You should tell him soon."

Something bad happened, that’s why Chimney is home early and you were just whisper-fighting in the kitchen. You’re sitting me down to tell me something, so whatever happened probably didn’t happen to Hen or Ravi or Harry, so. Dad or Buck?”
“It’s–” Chim starts and then stops himself. He moves and sits next to Chris and okay, maybe he was a little flippant before but now he’s starting to feel freaked out. “It’s both of them, Chris.”
Or, Buck and Eddie are both seriously injured on a call. Christopher waits for them both to recover, and copes with the possibility of losing the family they all worked so hard to build.

Summary
Eddie's head snapped up. One of the SWAT officers was pointing at a portable monitor set up near the command vehicle—a live feed from the news broadcast still streaming from inside the school. The camera was shaky, the angle awkward, but it showed a hallway.
And there—*there*—was Buck.
Eddie's breath caught in his throat. Buck was in the middle of the corridor, and he was fighting. Not running, not hiding—*fighting*. Hand-to-hand combat with one of the shooters, brutal and desperate. Buck's face was streaked with blood, his shirt torn, but he was moving with the fierce determination of someone protecting something precious.
The camera zoomed in slightly, and Eddie could see it now—the way Buck had positioned himself. The storage closet door visible behind him. The way every move Buck made was calculated to keep the shooter away from that door, to use his body as a barrier.
"The boys," Eddie said, his voice hollow with realisation. "They're in that closet. That's where he hid them. He's—" Eddie's voice broke. "He's protecting them."

Summary
Rocking back on his heels, Buck pushes himself up. He stretches his arms behind him as he climbs to his feet, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
Then it hits.
Pain flickers through his left ankle, sparking beneath his skin and dancing across the bone.
Buck stumbles, almost falling into the refurbished flowerbed before he manages to catch himself. He winces and shifts all of his weight onto his right leg. The pain retreats to the same dull ache he had ignored a few minutes before, the sensation settling into the bone. It prickles beneath his skin like pins and needles, a slight numbness settling into his ankle. He reaches down and presses his gloved fingers to the bone, trying to feel for an injury he might have missed.
