“…The modern viewer must remember that prior to the 1960s, soulmark portraits were the ultimate in taboo. But one can see how an artist like Captain Rogers would feel compelled to pick up his sketchbook…
...Captain Rogers never did a self-portrait; we can only speculate who his soulmate — or soulmates — might have been."

Summary
“Captain America lives on the top floor. Roof access. This is the closest we can get with camera surveillance. Stark hasn’t started sweeping random bakeries, not yet. Think you can handle the mission?”
The Soldier has killed presidents and priests, drug lords and diplomats, people with small armies to protect them and people who could make him break a sweat as they fought for their lives. He has shaped the century.
These are facts, not memories.
But he knows this is nothing, this mission. Follow a lone man around the city. Break into his apartment. Watch and observe.
“Yes,” he says.
“Guess Pierce was right. This is ironic. Fucking poetic even.” Rumlow snorts. “Barnes is a supersoldier. You’re the only one who can take care of him, isn’t that right, Cap?”
That is not the Soldier’s designation. He nods anyway.

Summary
Homecoming AU.
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves.
Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.
And that’s when things get complicated.

“Hey Ned.” Betty’s voice wavered. Her eyes stung. She so desperately wanted to be that kid at Midtown again. The word unstable repeated in her head. That’s what Wanda Maximoff had said. Unstable, unstable, unstable. Understatement of the fucking century. Did Harry end up going to the Gala, or was he on his way home from work? How long did she have before he reached the apartment? She felt like a prey animal.
“I know it's been five years.” Ned said quickly. “But you have to hear me out. I need your help. It’s about Peter.”
And well, Peter needed all the help he could get, didn’t he? She took a deep breath, and decided that Harry, and the world, would never see these papers.
“What do you need?”
“I need a ride.” Ned said. “A couple other things, too. How does Pepper Potts feel about you?”
OR: Peter snaps instead of Tony, Betty Brandt gets famous, Harry Osborn tries to convict Spider-Man of Murder, somehow, Quentin Beck chose law school over vengeance (he's still an asshole), Ned & MJ Scooby Doo some shit, and Wanda doesn't enslave a town this time (What happens next might Shock You). Oh, and Rhodey and Danvers are officially an item (sorry ladies, he's taken).

Summary
Steve Rogers is a seasoned activist and not at all afraid to get arrested while protesting the building of a pipeline. HOWEVER he is TERRIFIED when he realizes he’ll be chained to the same backhoe as Bucky “very handsome southern boy who also plays guitar and struts like a panther in his very tight, worn thin blue jeans” Barnes.
Our brave, tiny Steve will find out once and for all: Can you catch on fire from blushing over your crush?
May Contain: Extended descriptions of how to get arrested while chained to a backhoe, copious amounts of sisters, Appalachian accents, cheerful silliness interspersed with tragic background realness. Pining with a happy ending. Chicken related controversy.
Tragic background realness mainly consists of parents passing away, because who doesn’t love adult orphans. Discussion of funerals. Very brief homophobic interaction in chapter 18 (marked in the chapter intro notes). There is no violence, but there are a few moments where you might think there might be violence. Overall this is a romance not a gritty, hard hitting documentary.
If I missed any potential triggers I always appreciate being told as I know what it's like to have my day/etc ruined by something in a fic.

Summary
They were more than just longtime friends and roommates; they were lovers and had been for a very long time. Of course, back then, it was far easier to hide such a thing. It was still, of course, by no means simple, but it was certainly much less difficult as it had become as time wore on. With this ever-advancing spyware technology, the only way to keep such a relationship secret was to lock it away from where prying eyes could look in.
Of course, another thing that made it hard to keep secrets was being friends with actual trained spies.
Bucky and Steve are finally back together after 70 years apart. Only no one thought to tell Bucky that homosexuality is no longer criminalized.

Summary
In his 2009 book on Captain America comic books, war photography, and American propaganda, Everett claims: “There is nothing to suggest that either the graphic novels issued during the war or the photographs taken during Rogers’ stay with the Howling Commandos can serve as a basis for a queer reading of Rogers and Barnes’ relationship. But even more importantly, there is nothing to suggest that such a relationship ever existed in the first place, and as such, those queer readings are not only misguided, but also libelous” (197).

In the aftermath of Steve's return to the world of the living and the battle of New York, the academia and the Internet react.

Steve’s left staring at the kid- Peter, his brain helpfully reminds him. The kid is staring back.
“So, you’re, like, Captain America, huh?” Peter asks, and he looks a little starstruck but less so than he did when he’d stared at Tony Stark’s jet taking off.
“Uh, yeah.” Steve says, staring hard at a spot just past the kid’s shoulder as he shoves his hands as deep as they can go into the pockets of his jeans. “Call me Steve.”
“Cool.” Parker breathes, and Steve tries not to think about just how badly this is going to go.
Aka Steve Rogers' American Tour Of Waiting For His Brainwashed Boyfriend To Come Back And Blowing Up Hydra is interrupted when Tony Stark dumps Peter Parker into his lap.

Today, Peter was honest-to-god going to see Captain America himself up close, in person, and not from a rooftop or tiny crevice like a creepy stalker fanboy.
Even better, he was going to watch Steve Rogers make history by soldiering his beleaguered way through the most intensely awkward and honestly ridiculous press conference in the history of ever-- jaw thrust out and spine ramrod straight. Trying hard to be polite and respectful in the face of adversity.
While a bunch of assholes with cameras and microphones shouted at him about Iron Man’s adolescent dick.

Summary
Two lines run side by side through time.
One may diverge from the straight path they tread, and the other in a maze of its own creation, but one way or another, they always find their way back to the path they had started on.
Steve Rogers had fallen for Bucky Barnes at the tender age of 16, even if he himself hadn't known it yet. He had walked by his side until the very end, presumably joining him in death in the Arctic after Bucky had fallen from the train.
However, that was not the case. It was never in the cards for them to die there, never in that lifetime, never in the lifetimes that had come before.
The two lines will find each other again in a vicious fight for both life and love, a ferocious cycle that begs the question: "In this life, were we meant to fall in love, or would fate so cruelly snatch you from my grasp once again?"
