Summary
Penelope has always been labeled as the "good wife", and her marriage as an ideal marriage with a "like-minded" husband.
But she was also a daughter in Sparta, where women were trained physically just like the men. She was a daughter of a Naiad, and so was half-divine. She ruled Ithaca without male help for 20 years - an island in an area known for its piracy. She had mean skills and the backing of the divine. She was every bit the hero that her husband was...and her story began before she even met him.
WARNING: The character of Odysseus is morally gray. As Homer says, he was "complicated." Kings of the time murdered, raped, pillaged (Need more livestock? Go steal some!), and were a law unto themselves. I am trying to walk a thin line between not rewriting history and also writing for a contemporary audience. There is reference to rape in Chapter 15. It is not explicit. Violence is not graphic, but is part of this story.

Summary
The wind comes early, salt-laced and restless, tugging at the sails before the sun has fully risen. The sea is silver in the half-light, gleaming like a blade. A dozen black ships line the shore, each a beast of burden groaning under the weight of war—of spears and shields, of men too young and men already weary, six hundred in all. Horses stamp and snort. Armour glints faintly. The world smells of brine and bronze and things left unsaid.
And there is the horizon, wide and unblinking, where the gods keep their secrets.
Already, Ares drums his fingers against his shield. Athena watches from behind a veil of cloud, sharp-eyed and silent. Apollo cords his bow in the east. Even the Fates lean in, breathless. The heavens tilt toward bloodshed.
But the dawn stretches her fingers across the sky, rosy and pale, as though the morning itself hesitates—softening what must be done.
Odysseus steps forward. His cloak hangs from his shoulders, sword glinting beneath it at his hip. He looks impossibly far away already, though he hasn’t left yet.
But his eyes—his eyes are on her.

Summary
Morpheus, the God of Dreams, takes pity on the King and Queen of Ithaca. Odysseus’s return is many years away, yet his and Penelope’s minds find each other in sleep. It’s both a blessing and a curse, and sometimes all that keeps them going.
Queen Penelope stepped into the dream as easily as crossing a threshold, and with her came the sun, as if Helios's carriage rode atop her billowing black hair. The carnage vanished in her presence, the ground no longer a battlefield but a sloping grassy hill dotted with olive trees. Her bright blue eyes almost glowed, searching the hillside with clear intent.
The King of Ithaca stood, gazing at her as if she were a vision of Aphrodite herself. The blood streaking his face and staining his hands evaporated in the wake of her sunlight, the dead bundle in his arms vanishing with it.
Morpheus stared as well, unable to believe that she stood before them. It was no shaped dream becoming a nightmare, no conjuration of the King’s mind to protect himself. It was her, slipping into his dream as if it were a room in their home. Answering her husband’s desperate cries.

Bluegill scales cover the oak slats like a scatter of half moons. Or, viewed through the lens of your current mood, a scatter of torn fingernails, each one ripped clean. Glancing up at the man at the other side of the table, you drag the back of the knife viciously against the dead fish’s decimated mail , and another shower of parts falls against the notched wooden surface like a morbid spray of rain.
Micah asks. “You and Morgan still fucking?”
He says the words loud enough to carry across the whole of what ragged remainder is left of the camp at Beaver Hollow. The two strangers sitting by the cave’s open maw look up from their card game, and you feel a faint, falling sensation in your chest. The kind that flutters through when you miss a step going down the stairs.
Keeping your head down, you continue scraping at the bluegill.
“Nah, can’t be. Doubt that miserable bastard can even get hard, the state he’s in now. And even if he could, can’t see him lasting more’n two minutes without, y’know…” Micah wheezes dramatically, adopts a wet, hacking cough that sounds despairingly close to the real thing.

Unrepentant fluff and romantic erotica. Had planned 2 chapters, but it ran away on its own so more are coming.
Please note: This is Shepard after the Reaper Wars. She has been through a hell no one can imagine, was physically crushed, emotionally scarred and lives with the guilt that trillions died and she could do nothing to stop it. She doesn't want to be strong anymore. She doesn't want to be Shepard anymore.
I have marked this work as Complete for the time being. I am working on my other Shepard/Garrus story, and while I am still working on the next chapter of Why, progress is slow and I am not sure when it will be finished.
