Summary
Years after a series of horrible events, a town had finally moved on. Instead of memorials and sadness, it became something mocked, celebrated, even used for merchandising. After all, it was only rumors and tales, right?
To prevent any similar events, a group would lay in wait resting until they were called once more to save the innocent. What awaited them however was something much worse that no one was prepared for. But what happens when your enemy has gone from a man in a suit to an entire network and company of supernatural horrors? It’s a clash between survivors from decades before and a new generation of nightmares ready to spawn underneath everyone’s feet.
((I suck at summaries, sorry. Some of Afton's original victims working through the future events. Combines parts and events of the Tales series, HW, SB, RUIN, and HW2. Can be read stand-alone as its a prequel of sorts that explains but doesn't require reading SB: Manifestation.))

Summary
In a terrible world there was a horrific chain of events that started with the cold-blooded murder of a young girl and ended years later in a fiery destruction that forever rocked a community to their core. However, this is not that story.
This isn’t the tale of a restaurant and the Man Behind the Slaughter but rather what other secrets could lay behind creeping about in the dark of an entirely alternate narrative? In a city ruled by crime lords, assassins, mad scientists, and masked identities, secrets and betrayals abound. How do you know who to trust and when to turn your back? Bonds are bound to be tested, backs will be stabbed. Is it a tale of tragedy and woe or survival and triumph? (If only they could see any of it coming...)
(Mostly boring "world building" until Ch3, Ch5 really kicks off the suspense/drama and heart of everything!)

He barely survived the most horrific nightmare of his life. For a while things were looking up: new job, new life, positive movement. Until the discovery of a missing person’s body started opening investigations that all tied back to him. Now, he’s lost everything: his sister, his happiness, his home, and barely clinging to a job. Strange nightmares and occurrences start up again and soon he finds himself back in a similar mindset. And headed into a whirlwind that’s going to involve those closest to him, ghost kids, spirits, people who should be dead, an old man who’s tried to lock the past away, and a genius kid who is way too criminally advanced for his age. Five nights is nothing compared to the experience they are about to embark on as they start to learn the real truth behind the two founding families of an empire built on blood and misery. He’s broke, he’s basically homeless, he’s lost pretty much everything, he’s barely functioning as is….and yet he’s ready to chase after the daughter of the serial killer he worked for for a week (without pay) that tried to kill him and almost did kill all of them…back into the very hell they barely escaped from.
After all, it’s only a matter of time before Vanessa wakes up….

Forcefully adapted into the perfect obedient daughter, until faced with things that causes severe cracks in this pretend cover life and make her rekindle that hope she long ago set free.
This is the story of how her past life and experiences shaped her into who she seems to be and how it affects her current choices and actions. And that just maybe a few surprising factors that radically change everything and leave her wondering: who is the real Vanessa really?
