“Never,” Tim had snarled, and lunged, because Robins didn’t give in.
Tim was standing in front of Jason’s memorial. His suit in the glass case, each rip carefully stitched, each bloodstain carefully washed. Tim backed away, straight into Hood’s chest. “What - what are you doing?”
“Putting the newest Robin in his place. Robin is pointless, Tim. Something that should’ve been left in the past after this one-” Hood gestured sharply at Jason’s uniform, which was something he shouldn’t have known about, “- went and died. Children shouldn’t be fighting, trained or not.”
Tim shook his head automatically, halfway to protesting, when Hood pulled the case open, the front sheet of glass swinging like a door. That should be - that should be locked. It took Tim a moment to process what Hood was planning, didn’t realize until Hood carelessly pulled the suit out, watching it spill on the floor, then pushed Tim forward.
Tim had never felt more free than he did flying as Robin, until Robin became another pretty cage.

Oh, he wired the place, had it all ready just in case, but he was dead by the time everything went up in flames, his mouth still frozen on his last words – that wasn’t funny. No. It wasn’t him. It was Tim who set it off, cleansed the world of the Joker and Harley and their broken, fake house in their broken, fake world and their broken, fake son. That was supposed to be the end.

Summary
What if Batman became Batman without all the gobs of cash? What if he was a guy who started out impoverished, as a child, and saw his parents die due to violence, and vowed to protect other people from such things happening to them?
This Bruce Wayne isn't a rich businessman or famous. He owns a martial arts dojo, and that barely keeps his nose above water. And then he takes in foster kids on top of that.
But this Batman is just as relentless in his pursuit of justice as his rich counterpart. Will he be able to successfully pull it off as part of society and not above it? Will his lack of funds prove disastrous, or his obviously less sophisticated background make him more of a target for the GCPD?
And what about the Robins, the Batgirls, and so on?
These are drabbles about their lives, all interconnected, all with varying levels of humor and angst and fluff.

It's an old game he and Stick used to play. Maybe not a game; something more like a test.
"Tell me what you taste."
Stick bought him an ice cream, the first time, but the game quickly expanded. From plain white rice (so much hiding in something so simple), to jerk chicken from Restaurant Row (Stick would make him pick out every last spice, in order of volume, then list their origins). Every wrong answer meant the swift crack of Stick’s cane across his shoulders or a jab behind the knee.
If he omitted an ingredient, he'd have to keep eating until he got them all—even if he'd already identified after the tiniest bite, say, the soiled band-aid the short-order cook had dropped in the chili and left to stew all day.
In which Matt Murdock dismantles a child trafficking ring while dealing with the ghosts of his past.

A whole week of vacation over the holidays for the Avengers sounds almost too good to be true. The younger heroes are heading off to a cabin in the middle of nowhere with some of their friends, while the older ones are enjoying peace and quiet back at the Tower. Now, what could possibly go wrong?
A snow storm, kidnapped husband, Russian assassin, and a very bad cold later, they might regret asking that... and there's still the teeny tiny matter of saving an old friend who may not want to be saved.
