“I’m fine. Things are going well. I…” Glinda hesitated. She tried not to ever say anything too sappy to Elphaba, who never knew how to accept such things gracefully, but she couldn’t help it. “I miss you,” Glinda admitted softly. Again, the line went silent for a beat too long. Glinda opened her mouth to soften the admission, but before she could, Elphaba’s quiet voice filled her ear.
“I miss you, too.”
After graduation, Elphaba and Glinda find themselves in separate cities and therefore apart for the first time in years. They keep in contact through letters, phone calls, and occasional visits. When Elphaba won’t stop being elusive about how she’s faring after being cut off financially, Glinda worries a completely appropriate amount. (She tries to offer a completely appropriate amount of help, too.)

Summary
Elphaba wakes up alone in the middle of a field with no memories and no idea where she is. Nothing around her makes sense and everything seems a little too good to be true. That is, until she finds herself in a house that feels like home with a woman that feels like forever.
“I really missed you, Elphie,” Glinda sighed, laying her body fully atop of Elphaba, resting her head in the crook of her neck.
“Was I really gone that long?” Elphaba questioned, rubbing a hand up and down Glinda’s back.
Glinda let out a heavy sigh, placing a soft kiss on Elphaba’s neck. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you how long it felt like.”
Elphaba hummed, pulling Glinda closer as her eyes began to slide shut again.

Every morning, Glinda wakes at 7:32. The light is always the same - thin, grey, indecisive. The silence carries weight, like a room holding its breath. She lies still, already knowing: today will not be new.
She has begged the day to change. Spoken different words, held her differently, tried not to hold her at all. But no matter how gently she navigates the hours, they collapse. And then it begins again.
There is no lesson. No progress. Only repetition, exquisite and cruel. And Glinda, trying to remember how to love someone whose death she cannot prevent.
It’s not hope she clings to now, but memory. And the fragile belief that even if nothing changes, she might still change the way she remembers her.

“What? Well, maybe, but–” Galinda groans, throwing her arms up in the air. “Alright Elphie, you caught me, I do want to be spoiled. Happy?”
She’s smirking. “Very.” The sandwiches are finished, so she grabs her gift and joins Galinda on their couch. She blinks and Galinda’s knees have been pulled up into Elphaba’s lap with Galinda’s arm wrapped around her shoulder, fingers twirling Elphaba’s hair.

It was wishful thinking. It had to be the truth. Glinda may not know much but she knew performance, and the more she thought about it the better it fit. Elphaba’s death didn’t make sense. Glinda had seen it with her own eyes and had stupidly believed that was proof it had happened.
Elphaba’s melting shadow had been wearing the hat. Glinda wasn’t sure of the scientification of melting, but surely either all or none of her clothes should have melted. Surely Elphaba herself shouldn’t have melted. Fiyero’s body was missing, and Elphaba’s hat was in her hands.
Glinda stared at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she realized she must have been crying. She looked crazy. It didn’t matter.

The girl faltered. She wanted to say it, Elphaba could see that. It was right there, the truth balanced on the tip of her tongue. But something stopped her. Something small and scared and flickering behind those wide brown eyes.
“You’ll get my name,” she said, “When you tell me how you found me.”

Look, I’ve never harboured any misconceptions about Loki’s opinion of me. Once, shortly after I discovered teenage angst, I might have developed somewhat of an infatuation with Loki’s blasé, I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude. It didn’t help that his face, too symmetrical for anyone’s peace of mind, with skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom, was an object of jealousy as well as absolute reverence for girls and boys alike. But after I had ended up drunk off my arse with my head in his crotch celebrating my sweet sixteen, I was quickly disabused of the idea that when it comes to me, Loki feels anything more than lukewarm tolerance.
“Jesus, Lushton, go to bed before you puke all over me,” he had said with disgust, shaking me off. “Loser.”
I’ve known for years that what I’m dealing with is a dickhead and one major case of egomania.
So when Loki’s words register in my frontal lobe, my bratty smile falls like a house of cards. “Sorry?”
