Summary
After 27 years, Earth's Hail Mary comes through. The world has been forever changed, and billions died because of the Astrophage crisis, but space agencies have done their best to survive and keep their telescopes pointing to Tau Ceti. After the beetles are spotted, Eva Stratt forces her way into the CSA office to learn what the Hail Mary crew discovered. Downloading the data is slow and happens in pieces, so the team has to try piecing together what happened out in the Tau Ceti system.
Eva Stratt is faced with the reality of what she did to Grace, watching him deal with the situation she put him in, leading to a complex mix of emotions. Part of her wishes things could have been different. But she knows that wishing on a star is useless.

The last thing he remembers is the walls of the sub exploding inwards as the last remaining space filled with air around him was flooded with thick blood. He thrust the black box with the life jacket out with his hand, hoping, praying, that it would reach the surface and the COI would find it.
Everything went black.
And then he opened his eyes. The sub was intact, still partially flooded with blood, but it was floating all around him instead of settling at the bottom. Simon was in zero gravity.

Shin, someone who has long been aware of his own system, can't help but wonder if his friend is just like him. Sou's personality differs in such extremes, it can't be normal. Still, an observation like that alone isn't enough to 'prove' anything. Perhaps Shin just wishes the person he was most close to would be able to understand him better by being similar.
Shin doesn't push his theory or attempt to make much of it until one night while programming together, Sou begins behaving in ways Shin could never imagine. It's only a matter of time before he and his system discovers the suppressed scars of the person they hold dear.
