I cried at least three times while reading this... totally didn’t see it coming. I think I stumbled on it with some smut filter (don’t judge me), but what I found was so much more. The real climax isn’t when their bodies come together, but when their two broken hearts realize the cracks match perfectly. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. This fic deserves way more love than it’s getting.
“Do you want me to leave you alone?” he asks. He’s whispering. Eddie’s knee bounces once, twice.
“No,” he whispers back. “I don’t want you to leave me alone.”
He doesn’t want Steve to leave him alone. He wants to fucking opposite, and he knows he’s a fucking lunatic for it, but he wants Steve to be so close it’s inhuman, unnatural. He wants them to merge bodies, wants Steve’s blood to be his own, wants to know the underside of his skin.
”I’m tired,” Steve says, almost sobbing the word out of his chest, and looks at Eddie so hopelessly that Eddie’s entire body aches. “I’m tired, Eddie.”
He blinks, and tears finally fall down his cheeks. His skin glistens in the dim glow from the porch light, and he’s beautiful, even in his agony.
“I’ve been angry my whole life,” Steve says softly, whispering brokenly. “I don’t wanna be angry anymore.”

Emmrich finds out about a hole in Rook's romantic experience regarding kissing, and sets about to correct this - and maybe give them a reward, if they learn the lesson well enough...
