Ainosuke must have believed he could distract Tadashi with oysters and alcohol and that this would all go very smoothly, and he would have been right. But Ainosuke could not distract himself from his own nerves. He’d had a glass and a half of champagne and had been distractedly quiet for some time, studying Tadashi as he ate, inhaling and rising up every so often as if to speak, and then looking around instead with a shake of his head. Eventually, after tracing a fingernail along the wooden picnic bench’s surface for some time, he spoke up.
“I don’t know if you remember,” he said, oddly loud and fast. “It was some time ago. The first time we ate oysters together.”

"You could put me down, you know," Satomi tells him when they reach the elevator.
"Sure I could," Kyouji agrees, his voice affable, noncommittal. He makes exactly zero moves to prove it. Sure he could, but why the hell would he? The kid has the fingers of one hand clenched in Kyouji's collar, not like he thinks he'd ever drop him, but just…there. It makes something turn over in Kyouji's chest. "Hit the button for me?"
Satomi rolls his eyes, but he does as Kyouji's asked, hitting the button to open the door. When they're through, he even hits the one for the eighth floor apartment where Kyouji stays whenever he's in Tokyo. It belongs to the organization, an impersonal set of rooms that only ever feel like they could maybe be a home whenever Satomi's in them.
Or, Satomi breaks his leg. Kyouji just wants to take care of him.

“Oi, what the hell is this?” Joe demands, too loudly. His grip on Ainosuke’s wrist is firm and grounding, but not painfully so — too warm, in all the ways Ainosuke has never known anyone to be, after a certain point.
“Would you relax?” he retorts. “I just bailed. ‘S not a big deal.”
—but it doesn’t quite hit its mark. Joe’s already pulling back the sleeve, color draining from his face with every bruise and welt and burn he uncovers. Then he takes Ainosuke’s other arm and pulls back the sleeve there, too.
“This isn’t from bailing,” says Joe in a quiet, shaking voice. “Adam, what the hell happened?”
