Summary
Merlin has been alive for a very long time.
He is not losing it... But he is on a very meditative journey to become one with a blade of grass when he suddenly wakes up in the sixth century, surrounded by friends he only sort of remembers and a king who isn't a king yet.
In other words: My version of a Merlin travels back fix it fic starting in the missing year between seasons 3 and 4.

Gwen and Arthur have been married for several years, Merlin's magic has been revealed and Arthur has now reached a kind of cold peace with it. Then a delegation arrives from a kingdom based on magic, and suddenly Destiny is starkly and ruthlessly to the fore. The question is should - can - it be avoided?

For many long years Merlin waited.

A hand grasped his arm, sending a brief thrill down Merlin's nerves as he was forced around to face the person behind him. Armour gleamed in the firelight: supple chainmail glinted, and the solid iron of a pauldron curved lovingly over one broad shoulder. The length of a sword blade separated them. The point hovered, steady and sure, over Merlin's heart, braced to run him through, but he did not care about any of that. He was too busy drinking in the sight of the man before him.
He could never forget him, no matter how many centuries had passed.
